Project Director to work on major construction projects in DC and Northern Virginia

Your new role:

Northern Virginia based commercial general contractor looking to hire a Project Director to oversee major construction projects and pursuits in the local area. Successful candidates will have a strong background working in commercial general contracting and have either operated across multiple market sectors or are specialists within 1-2 market sectors.

About the company and projects:

• Lead a portfolio of major construction projects in excess of $100M.
• Involvement in the recruitment, retention, mentoring, and succession planning to build high-performing teams.
• Oversee employee training, professional development, and performance management initiatives.
• Assign project teams strategically to support both project success and employee growth.
• Foster a strong field presence by supporting project teams and maintaining jobsite visibility.
• Represent the organization within the industry through networking, community engagement, and leadership activities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, owners, designers, consultants, and key stakeholders.
• Lead all phases of project delivery, from pursuit and preconstruction through execution and closeout.
• Establish project performance goals and drive teams to exceed safety, quality, schedule, and financial targets.
• Oversee project execution plans, quality control programs, and operational compliance processes.
• Provide executive oversight of contracts, change orders, claims, risk management, and project controls.
• Monitor project financial performance, forecasts, reporting accuracy, and profitability across a portfolio of work.
• Proactively identify, mitigate, and manage project risks while ensuring successful project outcomes.
• Develop and implement subcontractor diversity and small business participation strategies.
• Drive business development efforts by identifying opportunities, expanding client relationships, and securing new projects.
• Own sales growth and account management responsibilities, including pursuit strategy, proposals, presentations, and revenue generation exceeding annual targets.

What you will need to succeed:

• 15+ years of commercial construction experience working directly for a general contractor. Candidates from consulting, architect or development background will not be considered.
• Diverse commercial construction project experience required, highly preferred if you have Mission Critical, Data Center, Healthcare, Manufacturing or Federal experience.
• Successfully delivered projects north of $80M in contract value.
• Ability to get 'hands on' in a Project Director position, the need to multi-task and lead from the front is important in this position.
• Proven leader that has managed a high-performing team currently or previously and currently in a Senior Project Manager, Director, Executive or VP role.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Base salary in the range of $200K - $240K, depending on experience and skill level.
• Bonuses based on project P&L, as well as applicable end-of-year performance bonuses.
