Farmers Market Associate

The Farmers Market Associate is a front-line employee who works at one or more of Hi-Rise's 10 weekly markets across Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, and surrounding towns. Both full-time and part-time candidates will be considered, with priority given to applicants who can work the entire market season (late May through Thanksgiving).

Job responsibilities include:

• Pre-market preparation: product packing, inventory checks, and loading the market van
• Driving: drive the market van to the market site
• Setup: unload van, set up tent, tables, displays, and products
• Front-line market work: provide exceptional customer service, demonstrating knowledge of all market products
• Breakdown and return to bakery: pack market tent, tables, displays, and products, drive back to the bakery, unpack the van and complete some setup for the next day's market

Successful candidates will have:

• A passion for Hi-Rise's products and for the value of farmers markets and the community of market vendors
• An ability to thrive while working independently
• A valid driver's license and the ability to safely and comfortably operate market vans in urban and suburban settings
• The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, including one-person market tent setup and other associated lifting
• An eagerness to work outside in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain
• The ability to work a shift that can exceed 10+ hours in length
• The ability to commit to a full market season from early May through Thanksgiving
• Experience with market work at a farm or food service vendor (though prior experience is not required)

Hi-Rise opened in 1996 with a crew of six, big ideas, and a simple goal: to make staple foods better than home-made. Hi-Rise started with bread using organic wheat, rye, and corn from independent mills and soon moved to pastries, incorporating extra-rich European-style butter and local fruits for pies and tarts. Naturally, soups and sandwiches came next utilizing the same philosophy of house made and hand selected ingredients. The trend continued over the years and now Hi-Rise has a long list of products made daily including breads, pastries, cakes, cookies, granola, and preserves. Along with a wide variety of sandwiches, soups, and salads, Hi-Rise offers dinners sold fresh and frozen, from pot pies and stews to lasagnas with house-made pasta as well as a curated list of wine and spirits. Using carefully-sourced ingredients and making everything from scratch, Hi-Rise is committed to producing the highest quality baked goods in a comfortable neighborhood setting.
