Posted 2 Days Ago Full Time Less than 10 Applies Key-Whitman Eye Center - Dallas POSITION SUMMARY The role of the Lead Ophthalmic Technician is to work collaboratively with the clinic physicians to perform basic, advanced and complex manual and automated medical tests to allow for proper medical diagnosis. This position requires excellent computer skills and to communicate efficiently with patients, physicians and other staff members. Must be flexible in work assignments and schedule, demonstrate commitment to ongoing training and uphold to the highest ethical principles of maintaining confidentiality. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions of the Lead Ophthalmic Technician include, but are not limited to the following: Assists the Clinic Manager/Clinic Director with the day-to-day administrative and clinical operations of the assigned location, including supervising Ophthalmic Assistants (certified and non-certified) and Diagnostic Technicians, coordinating staff schedules, and ensuring appropriate staffing coverage. Represents, supports, and promotes a positive image of Key-Whitman Eye Centers when dealing with patients inside and outside of the organization Creates and sustains a highly accountable and inspired work environment where employees deliver exceptional patient care; sets the example for how operational and clinical staff work together by demonstrating shared leadership with the Clinic Manager/Clinic Director Obtain and document patient medical and ocular histories Perform visual acuity testing, pupil assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, HVF and HRT Assist doctor with minor in office procedure and post-op care Capture and maintain clinical photographs for documentation when required Educates patients regarding treatment plans, medications, and postoperative care instructions in a clear and professional manner. Maintain exam rooms, instruments, and supplies according to clinic policies Coordinate patient flow to ensure efficient clinic operations Schedule diagnostic testing, procedures, and follow-up appointments as directed Administers topical ophthalmic medications Performs functional ocular testing, including color vision, BAT, Schirmer, Amsler grid testing, and accurate, repeatable refractometry. Understands basic ocular pharmacology Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel between Key-Whitman clinic locations to support physician schedules, patient care, training, staffing coverage, and operational needs. Other duties as assigned Two years of Ophthalmic Technician experience in an ophthalmology setting JCAHPO certification (COA/COT) recognizing more advanced general knowledge and specific use of ophthalmic instruments as pertaining to the level of COT – preferred High school diploma or GED Successful completion of two or more years of college and/or university level courses - preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills Proficient in EMR and computer literacy Well organized and attentive to detail CPR preferred, but not required HIPAA knowledge and compliance PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
