PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE

The Division of Family and Child Health (DFCH) of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene oversees programs, policies, and services that promote health equity, safety, and well‑being for NYC families and children. The DFCH is made up of the Bureau of Maternal Infant and Reproductive Health, the Bureau of Early Intervention, the Office of School Health, and the Bureau of Administration. Its vision is that every child, woman, and family can reach their full health potential. Supervising Public Health Nurse Level 3 OSH ensures the health and well‑being of students, improves efficiency of health services, and directly contributes to a healthier, safer school environment for all students. Responsibilities Provide assignments and schedules for nursing and paraprofessional staff Use Automated Student Health Record (ASHR) to generate reports Conduct in‑service trainings and plan staff development activities Participate in recruitment and orientation of new staff Analyze data from OSH management reports (walk‑ins, case management, special projects) Participate in disciplinary activities as needed Conduct site visits to schools to provide clinical supervision of nurses, advisors, and assistants Collaborate with the OSH team (Supervising Medical Doctors, Vision team, Mental health team, etc.) to plan initiatives within the assigned area Monitor inventory of medical supplies and equipment within a designated area Serve on emergency teams on call for bioterrorism attacks and other emergencies as directed by the Commissioner of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Preferred Skills Expertise in planning and program development Knowledge of DOHMH and DOE personnel policies and procedures Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills Benefits Premium‑free health insurance plan that saves employees over $10 k annually (2024 assessment) Additional health, fitness, and financial benefits may be available based on the position’s associated union/benefit fund Public sector defined benefit pension plan with steady monthly payments in retirement Tax‑deferred savings program Robust Worksite Wellness Program offering resources and opportunities to stay healthy while serving New Yorkers Work‑from‑home policy: depending on the position, up to two days per week may be worked remotely Job security compared to private‑sector employment Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university (or one recognized by the New York State Education Department) Current license and registration to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State At least one year of supervisory experience Experience conducting presentations Medical Requirement Medical guidelines have been established for the position of Public Health Nurse.
