Acoma Pueblo is regarded as the oldest continuously inhabited community in the United States. Access to the pueblo is difficult as the faces of the mesa are sheer. Before modern times access was gained only by means of a hand-cut staircase carved into the sandstone. There are several interpretations of origin of the name "Acoma". Some believe that the name Acoma comes from the Keresan words for the People of the White Rock, with aa'ku meaning white rock, and meh meaning people. Others believe that the word aa'ku actually comes from the word haaku meaning to prepare; a description that would accurately reflect the defensive position of the mesa's inhabitants. The nearest major airport is Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ / KABQ). This airport has domestic flights from Albuquerque, New Mexico and is 70 miles from the center of Acoma Pueblo, NM.

The Facility- Acoma Canoncito Laguna Service Unit

The hospital provides general medical, pediatric, and obstetric inpatient care with 25 beds. ACL also houses a Dialysis Unit and the New Sunrise Regional Treatment Center, a residential program for adolescents. The hospital offers a full range of outpatient and dental services as well as several specialty clinics, utilizing a combination of direct and contract services. Full diagnostic and treatment facilities support outpatient care. Well-baby, diabetic, prenatal and general medical clinics are scheduled weekly. The field health program consists of health services that include health education, public health nursing, social services, nutrition, school health programs, environmental health, and alcohol and substance abuse services.

Scope of Work:

• Radiology Techs shall provide diagnostic imaging radiologic services in Radiography, in a competent and professional manner assigned by the Supervisor of Medical Imaging Services.
• Provide services at dates and times assigned by Supervisor of Diagnostic Imaging services typically Monday through Sundays.
• Provide emergency coverage when short-staffed as assigned by Supervisor of Diagnostic Imaging Services.
• Duties and responsibilities may encompass Out-patient, In-patient, Urgent Care, and Emergency Room departments serves to Client patients.
• Perform diagnostic imaging procedures, such as CT and Radiologic examinations.
• Responsible for accurately positioning patients and ensuring that a quality diagnostic image is produced. They work closely with radiologists, the physicians who interpret medical images to either diagnose or rule out disease or injury. For the images to be interpreted correctly by the radiologist, the imaging examination must be performed properly by a radiologic technologist and CT technologist.
• Provides information to diagnose patient illnesses by operating radiologic equipment to produce radiographs.
• Identifies patient service requirements by establishing a personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
• Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; and verifying receipt of supplies.
• Maintaining and operating imaging equipment.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge of profession.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanations of treatment, and answering questions.
• Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into a specified position and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
• Performs imaging examinations that will be responsible for accurately positioning patients and ensuring that a quality diagnostic image is produced.
• Works closely with radiologists, ordering providers to assist in diagnosing diseases and injuries.
• For images to be interpreted correctly by the radiologist, the imaging examination must first be performed properly by an RT.
• Minimizes radiation to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors. Adhering to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) regulation.
• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media; and administering first aid and using the emergency cart.
• Maintains production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures, developing radiographs, observing radiographic results, and making necessary adjustments.
• Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Provides direct patient care services under the terms of this contract, delivering appropriate and timely imaging services in accordance with the Standards of Care established by recognized diagnostic imaging department and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Service Unit's Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, including attendance at department and medical staff meetings where appropriate.

Work Schedule:

• Will work Dayshifts and Nightshifts of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with 30 minute lunch break, Nights shifts of 8:00 pm to 8:30 pm. All shifts can vary depending assigned shifts by Supervisor of Diagnostic Imaging services typically Monday through Sundays and/or as needed.

Certifications & Qualifications:

• Graduate of accredited School of Radiologic Technology
• One-year full-time experience as a CT Scan Technologist
• Valid state radiology registration as required by State Law.
• Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
• ARRT (R), ARRT (CT) preferred.
• Current CPR/BLS Certification
