Deputy SheriffThis posting may close at any time once a sufficient number of applications have been received.The Deputy Sheriff performs law enforcement work to protect lives, property, and rights of citizens of the County. Work involves performing law enforcement or jail duties in a specific area of assignment. This position may serve civil process papers, such as summons, writs of possession, foreclosures, executions, claim and delivery, restraining orders; answer complaint calls and patrol the County in an official vehicle to deter crime or apprehend violators or suspects; serve warrants and make warrant arrests; and/or performing various procedures associated with transporting prisoners for the Sheriff's Department. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary according to areas of assignment. Employee is subject to the usual hazards of law enforcement work.Examples of DutiesEnforces all the laws of the state and applicable federal laws.Provides law enforcement services to residents and responds to service requests.Prepares documentation and reports in a timely manner.Regular and punctual attendance is required.Investigates and attempts to locate subjects of outstanding warrants; executes warrants and logs evidence; makes arrests and completes arrest reports.Contacts other law enforcement agencies when subjects are believed to be in their jurisdiction and makes apprehension requests; makes apprehensions in County as requested by other law enforcement agencies.Performs various extradition procedures as necessary.Performs other related duties as required.Minimum QualificationsHigh School graduation or GED. Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days. Must be a U.S. citizen. Certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas is required.Applicants for this position must complete a fingerprint-based criminal history and background investigation and must meet all applicable CJIS and TCOLE requirements. The following criminal history may result in disqualification from employment, appointment, or licensure, subject to any applicable waiver or review process authorized by law, CJIS requirements, or TCOLE rules:A felony conviction or qualifying felony deferred adjudication/community supervision;A Class A misdemeanor conviction or qualifying deferred adjudication/community supervision;A Class B misdemeanor conviction or qualifying deferred adjudication/community supervision within the previous ten (10) years;A conviction or qualifying community supervision/deferred adjudication for an offense involving family violence;Family Violence convictions or deferred adjudication;A current criminal charge for an offense that would constitute a bar to TCOLE licensure; andOther circumstances that result in the applicant being ineligible for required TCOLE licensure or CJIS access.Criminal history will be reviewed in accordance with applicable federal and state law, TCOLE requirements, CJIS requirements, and County policy.Supplemental InformationTo ensure proper delivery of emails please add View email address on click.appcast.io to your email safe list.BenefitsDenton County offers a full range of employee benefit programs for eligible employees, retirees, and their families. Employees who will be away from work for one of these reasons should contact Human Resources for additional information. When possible, an employee should provide at least 30 days advance notice. In the case of an emergency, notification should be made as soon as possible.
