Wildland Firefighter (Regional Fixed-Wing Program Manager)

Summary This position is located in a USDA Forest Service Unit. The incumbent is responsible for developing and recommending aviation objectives, plans, policies, standards, and procedures for airtanker, aerial supervision, and aircraft coordination programs. Major Duties Duties are at full performance grade GS‑13 level. Responsible for providing technical and programmatic oversight for fixed‑wing operations in the Region primarily for wildfire. Plans and supervises fixed‑wing operations, evaluates ground facilities, and develops and conducts training. Develop new or improved methods of utilizing aircraft for fire detection and suppression, and analyzes aircraft capabilities in fire-connected missions. Serves as the principal advisor in the development and implementation of policies, programs, and standard practices for fixed‑wing operations and specialized aviation projects. Develops, reviews, and analyzes new or proposed fixed‑wing aviation policies, procedures, and guidelines that impact a significant organizational segment of the agency. Conducts and leads reviews and inspections of Forest Service facilities and operations to assure adherence to agency policies, contract requirements, and operational plans. Supervises multiple employees. Education There are no educational requirements for this position.
