As a nurturing university community, we challenge students, faculty, staff, and administration to fully realize their highest academic, professional, and personal potential.Position Description Summary/Purpose:Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, this position performs a variety of business, accounting, and financial functions related to the operation of Goodwin University and its subsidiaries. Assists in the preparation of financial statements, journal entries, account reconciliations and month/year end closing processes.Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:Shares responsibility for the day to day accounting activities for Goodwin University and its subsidiaries.Assists in the preparation of the monthly financial package in accordance with the monthly tasks checklist.Works with the Facilities Operations Administrator to process monthly billing statements for rental property tenants.Updates security deposit schedules for rental properties.Prepares and posts intercompany payroll entries.Posts monthly billings and payments for commercial tenants and distributes rent receivables report.Reconciles intercompany accounts monthly.Posts barter transactions and reconciliation of statements to general ledger.Maintains fixed asset schedules and construction project costs for the University and its subsidiaries.Posts the monthly depreciation expenses.Performs bank reconciliations and makes appropriate journal entries to reflect account activity.Prepares and posts journal entries for real estate closings and updates all corresponding real estate files.Formats and posts Goodwin College King Court, LLC journal entries received from management company.Prepares semi-annual real estate tax analysis and rollforward schedules.Prepares annual Town Filings for Mandatory Income and Expense Reports and Declaration of Personal Property.Books monthly banking & investment activity for Goodwin Foundation, Inc.Assists in audit preparatory work.Assists with the preparation of tax returns.External invoicing.Posts quarterly postage allocation journal entries.Assists in reconciling external grantsConducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.Other Functions:Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.Knowledge, Ability and Skill:Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.Requires a working knowledge of financial statementsMust have excellent time management, communication, decision-making, human relations and organizational skillsMust have the ability to multi-task and work independentlyProficient in the use of Microsoft Office with a focus on Excel, and accounting softwarePerforms work within standard practices and procedures with review of progress or results by Accounting ManagerMust be comfortable working with a diverse team of talented individuals across multiple operating entitiesQualificationsMinimum Required Qualifications:Education, Training and Experience:Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or relevant business field of study required, with at least 1 year of relevant business experience strongly preferred.Special Requirements:Valid driver's license & insured vehiclePhysical and Mental Requirements:Work Environment - None - Under 1/3 - 1/3 to 2/3 - Over 2/3Outdoor Weather Conditions - XWork with fumes or airborne particles - XWork near moving mechanical parts - XRisk of electrical shock - XVibration - XPhysical Activity - None - Under 1/3 - 1/3 to 2/3 - Over 2/3Standing - XWalking - XSitting - XTalking & Hearing - XUsing hands/fingers to handle/feel - XClimbing or balancing - XBending, pulling, pushing - XDriving - XLifting Requirements - None - Under 1/3 - 1/3 to 2/3 - Over 2/3Up to 10 pounds - XUp to 25 pounds - XUp to 50 pounds - XUp to 75 pounds - XUp to 100 pounds - XOver 100 pounds - XVision Requirements:X Close vision (i.e. clear vision at 20 inches or less)X Distance vision (i.e. clear vision at 20 feet or more)X Color vision (i.e. ability to identify and distinguish colors)X Peripheral vision (i.e. ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down orleft and right while the eyes are fixed on a given point)X Depth perception (i.e. three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances andspatial relationships)___ No special vision requirementsFull-Time Employee Benefits:Medical InsuranceDental InsuranceVision InsurancePet Insurance401k employer matchEmployee & dependent life insuranceGreat tuition benefits for employee, spouse & dependentsPTO program(This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between Goodwin University and employee.
