Travel RN - Operating Room

American Traveler is hiring an experienced OR RN for a Level I Trauma Center with the ability to scrub and circulate a wide range of surgical cases including trauma, transplant, and robotics.

Job Details

• Work in the Surgery Room/OR unit of a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated, Comprehensive Stroke Center hospital,
• 28-bed unit including 2 hybrid rooms for CV/Vascular cases,
• Approximately 60-75 surgical cases per day,
• Patient population includes outpatient, inpatient, and trauma cases such as GSW, stabbings, transplants (kidney, heart), donor cases, general, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, and open heart/CABG procedures,
• Hybrid room sees 5-10 adult-only cases per day including TAVR, AAA, endarterectomies, angiograms, and fistula revisions,
• Approximately 20% pediatric caseload including open hearts, appendectomy, and cholecystectomy,
• No liver or lung transplant cases performed,
• Participates in Gifts of Hope cases,
• EPIC EMR experience required,
• Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system,
• No floating required,
• 10-hour day shift scheduled 1045a-715p as part of a rotation-based 6-week schedule provided 2-4 weeks in advance,
• Various shift options available including 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts depending on service line,
• OR operates 24/7, 365 days a year with skeleton crew coverage for trauma and urgent cases outside standard hours,
• Weekend rotation required every 4th weekend (Saturday-Sunday),
• On-call required with 30-minute response time; approximately 3 call shifts in a 6-week period including 2 weekend shifts,
• Sleeping room available for on-call staff,
• No self-scheduling; staff are scheduled based on unit rotation needs,

Job Requirements

• Active IL RN license required,
• BLS certification required,
• 2-3 years of acute care experience required,
• Minimum 12 months of core OR experience within the last year,
• Ability to scrub and circulate for a wide range of surgical cases,
• Critical care experience preferred,
• Trauma experience at Level 1-2 required,
• EPIC EMR experience required,
• Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration,
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN,

• Scrub and circulate for a diverse range of surgical specialties including trauma, transplant, cardiovascular, orthopedic, and robotic procedures,
• Support team includes charge nurse, resource nurse, bedside anesthesiologist monitoring, ANM, educators, service line reps, and EPIC super-users,
• Charge nurse does not carry a patient assignment Monday-Friday but assists on weekends and evenings,
• Orientation includes meeting educators and ANM, gaining system login access, completing online modules, and EPIC training on day one, followed by unit orientation on days two and three,
• Holiday coverage required, including one winter holiday and one summer holiday,
• Scrubs provided by facility,
