Diesel Technician I/II Multi-Level Posting (Equipment and Transportation Tech)

This position is for a Diesel Technician Wednesday - Saturday, 5:00 AM–3:00 PM schedule. Tools, uniforms and PPE are provided. Certification incentives available. Diesel Technician I (Equipment and Transportation Tech) Salary: $31.52 – $43.97 per hour. Performs skilled mechanical work in repairing and maintaining various mechanical equipment, including heavy construction equipment, earth‑moving equipment, agricultural implements, industrial and commercial generators, vehicles, and plant mechanical equipment. Fabricates parts and installs new equipment. Uses independent judgment in carrying out field assignments. Participates and assists with training activities. Works under the direction of a supervisor. May provide guidance to maintenance workers. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Electrical and hydraulic systems. CAT SIS and Cummins Insight diagnostic programs. Basic computer systems and processes. Common safety procedures related to a mechanical repair shop. Maintenance and repair of heavy equipment or tractor trailers. Gas and diesel engine maintenance and repair, including hand, power, and shop tools. Reading and following drawings and schematics and maintaining various written logs/reports. Attain Class B CDL with Haz‑Mat endorsement. Weld steel and aluminum with electric or acetylene welding equipment. Perform metal layout and fabrication. Complete training and certification programs. Effectively communicate. Education High‑school graduation or GED required. Completion of a trade school program or apprenticeship program in heavy equipment maintenance, diesel mechanics, or a similar program is preferred. Diesel Technician II (Equipment and Transportation Tech) Salary: $34.04 – $47.49 per hour. Performs skilled mechanical work in repairing and maintaining various mechanical equipment, including heavy construction equipment, earth‑moving equipment, agricultural implements, industrial and commercial generators, vehicles, and plant mechanical equipment. Fabricates parts and installs new equipment. Uses independent judgment in carrying out field assignments. Participates and assists with training activities. Works under the direction of a supervisor. May sometimes direct the work of maintenance workers in lower classification. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Maintenance techniques of land application equipment, cranes, boiler maintenance, and tractor trailers. Electrical and hydraulic systems. CAT SIS and Cummins Insight diagnostic programs. Air conditioning systems. Computer software, particularly Microsoft Outlook, Word, and/or a CMMS. Common safety procedures related to a mechanical repair shop. Maintaining and repairing vehicles, heavy earth‑moving equipment, agricultural equipment, generators, and tractor‑trailers. Working with electrical and hydraulic systems. Diagnostic equipment and systems. Gas and diesel engine maintenance and repair skills, including hand, power, and shop tools. Reading and following drawings and schematics and maintaining written logs/reports. Welding steel and aluminum with electric or acetylene welding equipment. Metal layout and fabrication. Good verbal and written communication. Attain a Class A commercial driver’s license with Haz‑Mat endorsement. Act as a subject‑matter expert in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment. Provide mentorship and leadership to lower‑level technicians. Complete training and certification programs. Demonstrate repair shop safety procedures. Identify opportunities for efficiency improvement.Organize and coordinate work assignments, including post‑job follow‑up documentation and communication. Education, Certification, and Licenses Associate's degree or completion of a trade school. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. Class B commercial driver’s license with Haz‑Mat endorsement required. Working Conditions Typical work environment: variety of floor surfaces including concrete, gravel, asphalt, dirt, tile, loose stones, uneven surfaces, slippery surfaces, and wet surfaces. Work may involve biosolids, inside or outside environments year‑round in all weather conditions and temperatures. Exposure to chemicals, lighting conditions including natural light, fluorescent, head lamps, incandescent, and low light. Vibration; moving equipment; work in clustered spaces; typical agricultural environment. Body position demands: standing, walking, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, reaching forward and overhead, climbing in/out of heavy equipment, balancing, object handling, simple hand/firm hand grasping, operating controls, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, typing, fine hand coordination.
