Access Specialist | Patient Access Representative

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, where your role as a Patient Access Representative will be vital in creating a welcoming and efficient environment for patients. You will be the first point of contact, assisting patients through registration, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and providing essential support throughout their healthcare journey.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly and collect accurate demographic and insurance information, ensuring data is entered correctly into the system.
  • Update patient records and obtain necessary consents and forms.
  • Verify insurance coverage through direct contact with providers or electronic systems, securing pre-authorizations or referrals as needed.
  • Explain insurance benefits and financial responsibilities clearly to patients.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by promptly answering calls, addressing concerns, and providing information.
  • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
  • Collect co-pays, deductibles, and other payments in line with organizational policies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and assist with claims processing and patient satisfaction efforts.
  • Support patients in navigating online portals and adapt flexibly to shifting work assignments based on business needs.

Education

A high school diploma or GED is required. Completion of a certificate or diploma program in Medical Front Office or Medical Terminology is preferred.

Experience

At least six months of experience in office, call center, customer service, or healthcare settings is preferred. Proficiency with computers and standard office equipment is necessary.

Mental and Physical Requirements

The role demands strong attention to detail and the ability to concentrate under time constraints. Tasks involve extensive computer use with frequent interruptions. Physical requirements include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, assisting and transporting patients in wheelchairs, and lifting up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a standard office environment with occasional exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and other hazards. Flexibility to work various shifts is required.
