Ultrasound Technologist The Ultrasound Technologist is a certified medical professional responsible for assisting doctors and other health professionals in diagnosing patients' ailments through the operation of special equipment that uses high-frequency sound waves to record images of internal organs. Key Responsibilities Perform diagnostic procedures using prescribed ultrasound techniques. Generate diagnostic imaging with two‑dimensional imaging, spectral and color flow Doppler, and other available modalities. Select proper transducer and adjust equipment to meet specific diagnostic needs. Explain procedures to patients and address their concerns. Key test data and patient information into the computer to maintain records of test results. Generate detailed preliminary reports of findings and communicate STAT findings as per organizational processes. Consent patients as needed and ensure documents are transferred to patient’s medical records. Assist physicians with ultrasound‑guided biopsies and/or invasive procedures. Maintain equipment according to manufacturer’s requirements and industry standards, at least once a month. Monitor, record and communicate the utilization of computerized documentation systems. Use knowledge of age‑specific needs of patients in performance of duties and responsibilities. Influence and create SOPs for ultrasound best practices. Provide a safe environment for administering contrast material. Assist with transporting patients to and from the room. Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Travel to different office locations as needed. Perform other duties as assigned and modified at the manager’s discretion. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Customer service abilities, including effective listening skills. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment. Ability and willingness to travel locally and/or regionally up to 40% of the time. Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, and lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds. Education and Experience Criteria Graduate of an accredited school in Ultrasound Technology required. Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare‑related field preferred. A minimum of 6 months of related work experience post‑internship/externship required. A minimum of 2 years of experience post‑internship/externship preferred. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required to perform echo cardiograms. Must be registered in the specific ultrasound modality performed (e.g., vascular, general). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required within the first 90 days of employment. Pay Range $31.00 - $44.36 per hour.
