Position Summary This position serves as the lead educator in a classroom of children by planning, implementing, and overseeing all classroom activities. The role works with typically developing children as well as children with disabilities, serves as a social service referral person, and shares in the responsibility of parent involvement in the program. The position may be reassigned to various classroom/centers as deemed necessary for program operations. As an instructional coach, the individual will work with teachers and administrators in the education industry to improve student achievement by providing guidance and support, observing and giving feedback on teaching practices, and designing and delivering professional development opportunities. Schedule Monday-Friday 7:30am-6:00pm Roles, Responsibilities and Essential Duties Prepare weekly daily lesson plans, including objectives posted for parents, volunteers, and visitors. Develop an individual plan for each child with goal setting based on identified needs and prescriptions for objectives and activities to meet established goals and outcomes. Schedule and attend home visits and parent-teacher conferences on an as-needed basis and document these events. Prepare and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment for children that is positive, developmentally appropriate, and experientially based. Provide sufficient outdoor learning experiences for children. Supervise all classroom activities, field trips, and outdoor activities. Make necessary referrals for any special needs problems or issues to appropriate staff. Ensure lesson plans cover all Head Start Standard domains and are individualized. Implement education lesson plans and daily programs for children in accordance with each child’s needs based on classroom observation and recording children’s interests and levels of functioning. Support children’s social and emotional development and provide positive guidance and discipline. Share pertinent information with family advocates ensuring coordinated services. Supervise mealtime and model good nutrition and proper social skills. Provide a stable classroom routine and environment ensuring a well‑run purposeful program responsive to children’s needs. Help teachers develop teaching strategies and techniques, observe teachers, provide feedback, collaborate on lesson plans and curriculums, and assist teachers in identifying and addressing areas for improvement. Provide resources and support for teachers, coordinate professional development opportunities, analyze student data and provide recommendations for instructional improvement, facilitate communication and collaboration between teachers, students, and parents, stay up to date on current educational research and best practices, and encourage a culture of continuous learning and growth among teachers. Screen, observe, and document children as required. Submit monthly progress reports to supervisor. Assist with collection and editing process of correct Child and Adult Care Food program (CACFP). Generate and track in‑kind and other allowable costs applied to the non‑federal share requirement and submit to appropriate staff in a timely manner. Maintain accurate meal counts and attendance and submit in a timely manner. Maintain appearance of the classroom environment. Follow the Health and Safety guidance. Qualifications and Educational Requirements Minimum of a master’s degree in education. Minimum of two years’ experience in a classroom setting. NYS Teacher Certification. Must be DOI Fingerprinted/PETS. Must pass the state background check. Current CPR/First Aid Training a plus. Current DOE & DOH mandated trainings a plus. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Dual certification preferred. Ability to work independently and as a team. Ability to take initiative in work assignments. Ability to work flexible hours and be flexible with the children. Highly organized; able to prioritize workload. Creative, patient, and with a good sense of humor. Collaborative working style. Proficiency with tablet and online applications and basic technology skills. Effective communication with parents and teaching team. Work experience providing services to children and families. Writing sample required. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and bend up to 50lbs. Ability to get down on the floor and play outside with the children.
