Location: Manhattan KS

Schedule: M-F 7:30 am – 4:30 pm

Projected duration: 3 months + potential for perm

Pay rate is $17.40 per hour

Summary: The primary role of a blood draw technician specialist is to aide in executing various assigned tasks, problem solving, educating, and providing suggestions to enhance productivity.

Responsibilities:

• Experience with blood extractions, marking samples, spinning samples, documenting maintenance information and decontamination, updating patient records, etc.
• Gathers and preserves samples following established protocols.
• Clearly and politely explains the process of a venipuncture (blood extraction) and/or other specimen collection (e.g. urine or fecal) as needed
• Demonstrates procedures using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully comprehends all orders from physicians.
• Matches requisition forms with specimen tubes.
• Mark, spin, divide, and freeze samples as indicated by test orders. Review all test requests or computer labels to ensure accuracy. Prepare samples for transport
• Stores samples at required temperature, puts samples in proper collection container/tube, labels accurately, follows specific procedures for transport as needed to maintain sample integrity. Adheres to OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Participates in annual departmental training
• Answers phone calls, reviews lab results to address inquiries.

Minimum Requirements:

• Valid certification in Phlebotomy for the state of employment as necessary in some states
• At least 6 months of experience conducting venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• 1 year of experience at minimum
