Software Engineer

This is a remote position.

Gilmer Independent School District is seeking a highly skilled Remote Software Engineer to design build and maintain highquality software solutions that support district operations data systems and digital learning initiatives. This role is fully remote and requires strong technical expertise excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with distributed teams. The ideal candidate is detailoriented selfmotivated and committed to delivering reliable scalable and secure applications.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Design develop test and maintain software applications and internal tools.

• Build and optimize APIs integrations and backend services for district systems.

• Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

• Write clean maintainable and welldocumented code following industry best practices.

• Troubleshoot debug and resolve software defects and performance issues.

• Implement secure coding practices and ensure compliance with district state and federal data standards.

• Participate in code reviews architectural discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Support deployment processes CI/CD pipelines and cloudbased environments.

• Communicate progress challenges and solutions clearly in a remote work setting.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Software Engineering or related field.

• 15 years of professional software engineering experience.

• Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g. Python JavaScript/TypeScript Java C# Go ).

• Experience with frameworks such as React or Spring Boot .

• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs microservices and distributed systems.

• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.

• Familiarity with Gitbased version control and collaborative development workflows.

• Ability to work independently and manage tasks in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure AWS or GCP).

• Knowledge of containerization (Docker Kubernetes).

• Experience building secure applications for publicsector or education environments.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

• Experience integrating with SIS HR or financial systems (e.g. Skyward PowerSchool).
