Litigation Paralegal - Civil Defense

The Role As a Litigation Paralegal, you will play a central role in supporting civil defense matters from inception through resolution, working directly with attorneys and contributing to the overall litigation strategy. You will: Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and correspondence Manage document review and assist with e-discovery processes Conduct legal and factual research to support case development Maintain and organize case files, ensuring accuracy and accessibility Track deadlines and ensure compliance with court rules and scheduling orders Coordinate with clients, experts, and third-party vendors Assist in preparing for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials This is a hands‑on litigation role—paralegals are actively engaged in the work and are a critical part of case execution. Expectations & Workflow Annual billable expectation: 1,600 hours Billable expectations are designed to support high-quality work and a sustainable pace Work closely with attorneys on active litigation matters in a team‑oriented environment Caseloads and assignments are structured to promote efficiency, organization, and strong work product Paralegals are trusted with substantive responsibilities—not limited to administrative tasks Success is measured by attention to detail, reliability, and contribution to case outcomes—not volume alone Team Environment & Firm Culture At Burrows & Stutsman, collaboration extends across all roles within the firm. Qualifications Prior experience as a litigation paralegal in civil litigation Strong skills in legal document drafting, organization, and file management Familiarity with litigation procedures in California state and/or federal courts Experience with document review and e‑discovery tools preferred Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills Ability to manage deadlines and work collaboratively with attorneys and staff Paralegal certificate required Experience in personal injury or civil defense matters is a plus Spanish language proficiency is a plus Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $80,000+, commensurate with experience Discretionary annual bonus Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with annual 3% firm contribution Unlimited vacation policy Hybrid work schedule #J-18808-Ljbffr
