Location 400 New Sanford Blvd,La Vergne, TN, 37086,United States Employee Type Full Time Exempt Contact Information Description The Assistant Warehouse Manager supports the leadership and day-to-day execution of warehouse operations within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient receipt, storage, movement, picking, staging, and delivery of production materials across assigned warehouse operations. The Assistant Warehouse Manager provides direct leadership to warehouse supervisors and hourly employees and may be assigned responsibility for a specific warehouse building, shift, or functional area. The position works closely with Manufacturing, Production Control, Materials Management, Inventory Control, Quality, Shipping, and other support functions to ensure material availability and maintain effective material flow to production. This role requires a strong floor presence, disciplined execution, and the ability to identify and resolve operational issues quickly while developing supervisors and strengthening warehouse processes and controls. Requirements Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent warehouse leadership experience may be considered. 5+ years of progressive warehouse, distribution, logistics, or manufacturing-materials experience. 2+ years of experience leading supervisors, leads, or sizeable hourly teams preferred. Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing or complex warehouse operations strongly preferred. Experience with ERP/WMS systems; SAP experience preferred. Strong understanding of receiving, put-away, picking, material movement, inventory control, cycle counting, and warehouse transactions. Demonstrated experience with operational KPIs, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing production priorities. Ability to work across multiple shifts and warehouse locations as business needs require. Preferred Experience Large-scale manufacturing or distribution environment. Multi-building warehouse operations. SAP and warehouse management systems. Lean manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, RCCA, or other continuous-improvement methodologies. Physical inventory and cycle-count programs. Material flow supporting high-volume production. Warehouse startup, expansion, relocation, or process transformation experience. Summary Warehouse Operations Support daily warehouse operations including receiving, put-away, storage, replenishment, picking, staging, and material movement. Manage assigned warehouse building, shift, or functional area and ensure daily operational targets are achieved. Ensure production materials are delivered accurately and on time to support manufacturing requirements. Monitor workload, staffing, equipment, and space utilization and adjust resources based on operational priorities. Coordinate material movement between multiple warehouse and production buildings. Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve material flow and warehouse productivity. Maintain proper segregation and control of production material, DMR/hold material, returns, scrap, and other exception inventory. Inventory & Process Control Support inventory accuracy through disciplined receiving, storage, picking, transaction, and material-handling practices. Ensure warehouse transactions are completed accurately and timely in SAP, WMS, and other applicable systems. Support cycle counting, physical inventory, inventory reconciliation, and root-cause investigation of discrepancies. Ensure material movements maintain appropriate system and physical traceability. Investigate inventory and material-flow issues and implement corrective and preventive actions. Reinforce standardized processes and prevent temporary workarounds or exceptions from becoming routine operating practices. Leadership & People Development Lead, coach, and develop warehouse supervisors, leads, and hourly employees. Maintain strong floor presence and provide visible leadership across assigned operations. Establish clear expectations for safety, attendance, productivity, quality, and accountability. Conduct shift meetings, operational reviews, and employee coaching as required. Support staffing plans, scheduling, overtime management, cross-training, and employee development. Build supervisor capability so operational issues are identified, escalated, and resolved at the appropriate level. Promote teamwork and effective communication across shifts, buildings, and functional teams. Safety & Compliance Ensure warehouse operations comply with company safety requirements, procedures, and applicable regulatory standards. Promote safe operation of forklifts, material-handling equipment, docks, racks, charging areas, and warehouse facilities. Conduct routine floor observations and ensure unsafe conditions are corrected promptly. Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions. Maintain good housekeeping and organized warehouse conditions using 5S and other continuous-improvement practices. Performance & Continuous Improvement Monitor operational KPIs including safety, inventory accuracy, receiving and picking performance, material delivery, productivity, and backlog. Use data and floor observations to identify operational gaps and improvement opportunities. Lead or support RCCA, 8D, and other structured problem-solving activities. Improve warehouse layout, space utilization, material flow, labor efficiency, and equipment utilization. Support implementation and stabilization of new warehouse processes, systems, equipment, and facility changes. Establish sustainable processes with clear ownership, measurable performance, and appropriate controls. Cross-Functional Support Partner closely with Manufacturing, PMC/Production Control, Quality, Inventory Control, Shipping, Engineering, Finance, IT, Facilities, and EHS. Escalate material shortages, system issues, inventory discrepancies, capacity constraints, and operational risks in a timely manner. Support new product introductions, production ramps, customer requirements, audits, and physical inventories.
