Bus AidePrimary Purpose: Ride buses and assist bus driver to ensure safe and orderly transportation of students.Qualifications:Education/Certification: High school diploma or GEDValid Texas driver's licenseFirst Aid CertificateCPI CertificationSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Must be 18 years of ageAbility to understand and follow written or verbal instructionsAbility to communicate effectively with othersAbility to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipmentAbility to manage student behaviorAbility to work well with children with disabilitiesAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manualsExperience: NoneMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Work cooperatively with driver in maintaining safe conditions on the bus.Maintain good rapport with students, parents, and guardians.Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs including lifting and carrying students with disabilities.Supervise students as they board and exit the bus and cross the street following established safety procedures.Escort students into the building and deliver to their assigned destination.Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and riding rules and regulations.Learn and adapt to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.Manage student behavior and report student discipline problems in a timely manner to appropriate administrator.Know bus routes to guide substitute drivers.Work irregular hours as needed.Complete and maintain accurate, updated, and timely records and reports including route sheet and daily non-notification forms.Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.Ensure seat belts, harnesses, and/or car seats are used correctly and assist students with safety equipment.Attend all required training as directed.Follow all federal, state, and district emergency procedures.Follow all procedures established by transportation and special education offices.Assist driver with pre- and post-inspections, child check, and cleaning duties.Supervisory Responsibilities: None.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Specialized and adaptive equipment used by studentsPosture: Frequent standing and sitting; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Frequent walking and reaching.
