Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room using physician preference cards and maintain a sterile field through proper technique when opening instruments and supplies
• Perform the surgical scrub prior to patient entry and assist the physician in draping the patient to prepare the operative field
• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgical team during procedures, anticipating needs and recognizing and correcting breaks in sterile technique
• Preserve and ensure correct identification of operative specimens for laboratory analysis
• Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as directed by the circulating nurse
• Clean and sterilize contaminated instruments, equipment, and supplies; may also perform clerical and direct patient care activities if assigned to Labor and Delivery

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician school or program
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire
• Knowledge of basic human anatomy and first-aid methods and practices
• Ability to assess and provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in an operating room or surgical setting
• Familiarity with electrosurgical equipment and diagnostic instrumentation
• Experience or comfort working in Labor and Delivery environments
