PHYSICIAN

Summary: The Physician will work to improve the health and well-being of individuals. Evaluates symptoms, runs tests to diagnose a patient's condition and then prescribes medication or treatment to remedy the illness or injury. Counsels patients and/or members of the community on how to prevent illness.


Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides patient medical services, which are limited to services within the training and experience of the practitioner
• Obtains complete, detailed, and accurate medical histories on patients. Reviews patient records to develop comprehensive medical status reports
• Performs health assessments and physical examinations and records all pertinent patient data
• Interprets and integrates patient data, for the purposes of establishing presumptive diagnoses, and the general workup of the patient by ordering appropriate laboratory studies, radiological and

other special examinations or diagnostic procedures required for the evaluation of illness.

• Administers injections, immunizations, and oral medication. Sutures wounds. Prescribes, administers, and dispenses drugs in accordance with federal and state laws and standards of practice
• Provides instructions and guidance and counseling regarding medical care matters to patients and their families
• Arranges for referral or refers patients to needed services that cannot be provided to patients in the clinic
• Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs, as appropriate
• Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation, as requested
• Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations
• Monitors patients and provides continuity of care between visits
• Records complete and accurate chart entries on patient transactions, writing orders, and recording progress notes summarizing patient clinical care
• Provides input in hiring, disciplinary action, and termination of clinic personnel. Provides annual clinical evaluations of nursing, lab, and x-ray personnel employed by the clinic
• Oversees the mid-level practitioner(s) to assure clinical competence - may discipline up to, and including, termination of the employee. Provides annual clinical evaluations of the mid-level

practitioner(s) and the office manager.

• Co-directs the Quality Assurance Program in accordance with the clinic policies and procedures
• Assists with the annual program evaluation and chart audit
• Reviews the Nursing Protocols in conjunction with the mid-level practitioners
• Works with the RHC office manager in providing clear medical record documentation
• Must be at the clinic as scheduled, according to contractual agreement - must be available, at minimum, 40 hours during a one-week period
• Must make sure that the mid-level practitioner(s) have a physician back-up available when the physician is not present
• Maintains a cooperative attitude with clinic personnel, physicians, and patients, and families (as needed) to enhance the continuity of care and a positive working environment
• Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control - offers recommendations for revisions at least annually
• Attends scheduled department staff and clinical meetings
• Exercises utmost diplomacy and tact to provide excellent customer service for patients; practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance to Clinic policies and HIPAA requirements

Education and/or Experience

• Successful Completion of medical school
• Current certification as a physician with the Oklahoma Board of Medicine
• Current OBN Licensure
• Current DEA Licensure
• Current CPR certification
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate
• Current Pediatric Life Support (PALS) certificate
• Minimum of 5 years in private or group practice: pediatrics, family practice, general practice, or internal medicine, preferred

• Knowledge of the organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care
• Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
• Ability to interpret, adapt and apply treatment protocol guidelines and procedures
• Ability to recognize medical condition requiring consultation with the collaborating physician, and to work with the collaborating physician, in person or by phone, on these and other cases outside

the scope of established protocols.

Work Environment

Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, ascend and descend stairs; possess ability to handle, finger or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. Frequently be able to lift 25 pounds

from the floor to waist level and may occasionally be required to assist moving adult patients. Specific visual abilities include close vision and the ability to focus clearly. Specific auditory abilities

include using the stethoscope for body sounds to include breath, heart, bowel, and korotkoff sounds.
