Job Title Technician, I, HVAC Position Summary Responsible for ensuring the reliability of HVAC systems through effective and timely maintenance and repair services. Performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance on large commercial/industrial HVAC systems up to 500 tons. Location Multiple Locations Compensation Min Salary: $44,993.26 Mid Salary: $50,617.41 (subject to experience and qualifications) Responsibilities Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on large commercial/industrial HVAC systems up to 500 tons. Maintain reliability of HVAC systems through timely and quality repair services. Work independently and exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks in a changing environment. Education Required High school diploma or GED plus 2 years industrial/commercial HVAC experience, OR an Associate Degree in HVAC Installation/Maintenance from a regionally accredited post‑secondary institution and 1 year industrial/commercial HVAC experience. Education Preferred Possession of a Universal CFC Certificate. Experience Required Experience in basic maintenance and repair of large commercial/industrial air conditioning equipment, including centrifugal chillers, BAS controls, and air handling units. Experience in basic maintenance and repair of hot water boilers. Experience Preferred None specified. KSA Required Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co‑workers, faculty, staff, students, and the general public. Ability to understand blueprints, schematics/diagrams, and CAD drawings. Skill in the operation of passenger cars, light trucks, and vans. Ability to lift and carry heavy bulky objects up to fifty pounds. Ability to work well independently and exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks in a changing environment. KSA Preferred Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and preventative maintenance software. Department/Job Specific Requirements Participate in job‑related enrichment seminars, workshops, and in‑service training. Complete required OSHA and safety training, including AED/CPR; asbestos awareness; chemical safety (HazCom/HazMat); compressed gas storage and handling; confined space entry; crane/lift/hoist safety; electrical safety; emergency action plans; emergency equipment (fire extinguishers); fall protection and scaffolding; first aid; flammable & combustible storage & handling; forklift/industrial vehicle safety; hand and power tools; lead/lead paint awareness; lock‑out/tag‑out; LP gas storage and handling; machine guarding; noise and hearing conservation; personal protective equipment; portable ladders; powered work platforms; reporting requirements; respiratory protection. Complete college HR training matrix (discrimination & anti‑harassment; personal information protection; ethics; “Shooter on Campus”) within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter. Undergo acceptable background checks due to the nature of the job. Operation of a motor vehicle with a valid North Carolina driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Availability to report to work during non‑scheduled hours in case of emergency call‑back or inclement weather events. Ability to work evening and weekend hours as determined by the college.
