Special Education Long Term Substitute Teacher (0.4 FTE) Tri-Town School Union (Topsfield, Boxford & Middleton Elementary Schools PK‑6), Spofford Pond School – Boxford, Massachusetts Job ID: 5746381 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: May 29, 2026 12:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Aug 31, 2026 Job Description Job Title: Special Education Teacher Reports to: Building Principal and Special Education Coordinator (Evaluators) Qualifications Master’s Degree in Special Education (preferred) Massachusetts License as a Special Education Teacher (Moderate) Strong collaboration/consultation skills Excellent organization and multi‑tasking skills Excellent communication and presentation skills – both oral & written Extensive knowledge/experience teaching Reading, Written expression and Mathematics to disabled students (preferred) General Areas of Responsibility Improve the skills of students with disabilities through direct teaching using a variety of instructional methods and in a variety of settings Evaluate students to determine eligibility, as well as ongoing progress monitoring Consult with other teachers and staff members regarding the educational needs and programs for assigned students with disabilities Provide information to parents, both oral and written, regarding their child’s disabilities, educational program, and progress Direct paraprofessional staff in program implementation and monitoring of special education programs with various students Specific Job Tasks Teach students in small groups, individually, and large group situations across a range of subjects and settings (e.g., general education class, resource room, substantially separate classroom) Work collaboratively with special education teachers, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and therapists to ensure timely information sharing and coordinated efforts for individual students Evaluate students to determine special education eligibility, write comprehensive evaluation reports, and meet district and DESE timelines Provide supervision and direction to paraprofessionals, maintain documentation of performance, and ensure optimal support for students Observe designated students in various settings for evaluation purposes, data collection, and consultation Participate in team meetings, provide data and detail for student progress, and develop or revise IEPs per district software and timelines Collaborate with professionals to write accurate progress reports meeting district regulations Administer and summarize interim assessment data to document progress and inform administrators Provide information to district administrators for program planning, budget development, and staffing needs Perform additional duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Special Education Coordinator/Administrator Compensation / Work Year Salary/benefits and work year to be determined in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
