Collect, receive and process specimens as required by respective laboratory area procedures and protocols. Demonstrates compliance with state, federal/CLIA and accrediting body standards in regard to collection, labeling, processing and testing of laboratory specimens. Maintains proper post analytical reporting for review by lab manager and caregivers. Assures patient and employee safety through adherence to Universal Precautions and hospital infection control policies. Maintain competency in waived and point of care testing. Performs clerical duties to assist the laboratory; this includes distribution of reports. Reviews current procedures annually. Participates in lab inspections and works with inspectors as needed. Performs and verifies adequate quality control prior to patient testing and reporting of results. Assure remedial action is taken and documented whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications. Maintains sufficient inventory of supplies and equipment needed for performance of duties. Utilize various laboratory and hospital information systems and software. Utilizes concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families. Maintains positive working relationships and fosters cooperative work environment. Displays honesty and mutual respect when communicating with peers and other departments, uses appropriate chain of command. Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day-to-day activities of the position. Complies with National Patient Safety Goals outlined for Laboratory Services Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment. Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties in this job classification Qualifications: High School Diploma A certificate in phlebotomy from a nationally accredited organization such as certification through the National Phlebotomy Association, American Society for Clinical Pathology or other nationally recognized agency. Minimum of a 100 blood draws, may be achieved through clinical rotation Current BLS certification; Effective communication skills; both orally and written.
