Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (IMC/PCU/Stepdown)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Nights | 12-Hour Shifts (6:30 PM start) | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 22-bed step down unit serving a cardiac-focused population including post-procedure patients (cath/stents/interventions, pacers), arrhythmias, CVA, detox/CIWA, sepsis, DKA, respiratory distress, and patients with feeding tubes
• Perform telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG interpretation; travelers will be required to pass telemetry competency tests
• Initiate and titrate cardiac and critical drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Insulin, and Heparin
• Conduct NIHSS assessments , dysphagia screenings, and strong neurological evaluations; provide post heart cath care including femoral and TR band management
• Manage chest tubes, CPAP/Optiflow, and PIV insertion; apply strong assessment and critical thinking skills throughout all patient interactions
• Float within skillset as needed, including to a secondary campus with approximately 2 hours notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is also possible. May be asked to precept students and new hires as this is a teaching facility.

Required Qualifications

• Current, active compact RN license
• AHA BLS certification required
• AHA ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 full year in a step down or PCU setting and at least 1 prior travel assignment
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start)
• Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with sepsis protocols and care pathways
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to adapt to change, work independently, and collaborate effectively within an experienced team environment
• Comfort with cross-campus float assignments across state lines
