Medical Support Assistant

Job Duties

Monitors automated healthcare reporting system for new patient orders for labs, diet changes, radiology exams, and consults, and informs appropriate Registered Nurse upon receipt.

Implements downtime procedures by using paper for charting, order transcription, diet, radiology, consult order and transmit to the appropriate area of the facility.

Transfer, and discharge of patients, assembles all paperwork for patient's record into sequential and chronological order, upon receipt.

Performs routine patient check-in/checkout procedures using computerized systems.

Scans and files outpatient records into automated computer system to create electronic record.

Records telephone messages pertaining to such things as detailed laboratory reports, X-ray and test results.

Receives visitors and phone calls to the unit.

Takes appropriate measures to ensure patient/family members/visitor confidentiality and privacy during interactions.

Assists in the orientation of new staff members to the unit.

Prepares correspondence, messages, and various other unit-specific reports using computer systems.

Performs other administrative, clerical, and record-keeping tasks related to patient visits to facilitate efficiency of care using unit-specific guidelines.
