Primary Purpose To investigate fire events to determine origin, cause, and responsibility in accordance with assignments from clients or assigned legal counsel. Responsibilities Accept assignments from customers for investigation of losses or claims and pursue investigations to meet specific client needs. Determine the origin and cause of the loss/claim and identify any potential third‑party responsibility for subrogation. Maintain required reporting commitments to the client in accordance with EFI’s standard procedures. Promote and market utilization of EFI services in the insurance industry and within assigned territory. Serve as a liaison between the insurance industry and law enforcement/fire service personnel. Investigate losses/claims with illegal, fraudulent, or subrogation aspects in accordance with assignments from client or attorney representing insurer. Identify and interview all witnesses or involved persons who may possess information pertinent to the incident (motive, opportunity, or other evidence). Develop knowledge and expertise required to conduct thorough inspections of available public records, including land deeds, mortgages, liens, suits, judgments, marriage and divorce records, etc. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of laws pertaining to privacy and availability of public records to ensure investigations are conducted legally and ethically. Additional Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned. Travel as required. Qualifications Education & Licensing – Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Minimum certification requirement: Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI). IAAI Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI‑CFI) certification preferred; must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Experience – Three (3) years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Skills & Knowledge – Good oral and written communication; PC literate, including Microsoft Office; strong organizational and time‑management skills; strong interpersonal, analytical, interpretive and investigative skills; attention to detail and accuracy; ability to work independently or as part of a team; ability to meet or exceed performance competencies. Work Environment When applicable, consideration will be given to reasonable accommodations. Physical Requirements Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods. Must be able to kneel, squat or bend. Must be able to work outdoors in hot and/or cold weather conditions. Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, reach/overhead work. Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds. Must be able to drive up to 4 hours per day. Auditory/Visual Requirements Hearing, vision, and speaking capabilities within normal limits.
