Material Handler

The Material Handler supports production and inventory operations by safely receiving, moving, and tracking materials throughout the facility. This role ensures accurate inventory counts, efficient use of floor space, and timely movement of parts and products to designated locations while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Responsibilities

• Receive incoming parts, place them in designated locations, and maintain accurate physical counts through periodic cycle counts.
• Load and unload materials from delivery trucks and move them throughout the plant to various locations using appropriate equipment.
• Communicate promptly with the Inventory Manager when inventory or material issues arise.
• Continuously look for ways to improve floor space usage and material flow within the facility.
• Properly document all work order travelers and ensure all required paperwork is accurate and complete.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to material handling and inventory control.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company standards.
• Complete assigned work within the given timeframe and according to established specifications and procedures.
• Cooperate with other employees in the department to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
• Adhere to all company safety regulations and operating procedures when handling materials and using equipment.
• Perform other material handling and warehouse-related duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Material handling experience, including loading and unloading materials and moving them throughout a facility.
• Hands-on experience with inventory activities such as picking, packing, and using RF scanners.
• Ability to operate pallet jacks safely to move carts and pallets weighing up to several hundred pounds.
• Ability to safely operate a motorized sit-down forklift.
• Understanding of shipping and warehouse processes in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to count and measure accurately to support inventory transactions.
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle physical tasks throughout the shift.
• Ability to stand and/or walk for the duration of the shift and perform tasks that require kneeling, bending, and using a step ladder or stool.
• Ability to read, hear, and speak clearly to follow instructions and communicate with team members.
• Capability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and accuracy.
• Ability to arrive promptly for assigned shifts and work overtime when required.
• Comfort working in a manufacturing environment that may be hot or cold.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Previous warehouse or stocking experience is preferred.
• Experience using RF scanners for picking and inventory tracking is beneficial.
• Familiarity with inventory transactions within a production or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to project an energetic, team-oriented attitude.
• Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
• Willingness to support continuous improvement efforts and adopt new processes.
• Flexibility to work overtime as operational needs require.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing environment where conditions can vary and may be hot or cold depending on the season and production activity. The position follows an afternoon-to-night shift schedule from approximately 3:30 p.m. to midnight, with the possibility of overtime as needed. You will regularly use equipment such as pallet jacks, sit-down forklifts, and RF scanners while moving materials throughout the facility. The work involves standing and walking for the duration of the shift, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing tasks that may require kneeling, bending, and using step ladders or stools in an active production setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Farmingdale, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
