Speech Pathologist Position

Hiawatha CUSD #426 has an opening for a full-time Speech Pathologist for the 2026-2027 school year. Qualifications include a valid professional educator license with endorsement in Speech Language Pathology and a demonstrated desire to help all children. The position reports to the Director of Student Services. The job goal is to enable each student to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the district's schools by identifying and supporting student's speech and hearing needs. Performance responsibilities include working cooperatively with families, schools, and communities; fostering a positive educational environment that contributes to the growth and development of all children, especially those who are at-risk or disabled. The Speech Pathologist conducts evaluations, provides direct services, as well as support services, within RTI and special education framework. The position also involves providing prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency. The Speech Pathologist creates goals and benchmarks to enable students to meet expectations for learning. The Speech Pathologist interprets and uses assessment data for the purpose of making appropriate modifications in the learning environment and planning effective interventions. The Speech Pathologist accesses and employs a wide range of information and technology to enhance student learning. The Speech Pathologist assists in determining the least restrictive environment to provide services based upon the needs of individual students. The Speech Pathologist plans, selects, uses, and adjusts as necessary instructional content, materials, resources, and strategies based upon age, ability, cultural, linguistic, and gender differences of the student. The Speech Pathologist speaks and writes effectively using language appropriate to the situation and the audience. The Speech Pathologist uses a variety of appropriate formal and informal assessment tools and procedures. The Speech Pathologist uses nondiscriminatory evaluation procedures in order to obtain a valid understanding of how a student is functioning and what the student is capable of accomplishing. The Speech Pathologist maintains useful and accurate records and communicates information such as, legal rights and evaluation results knowledgeably and responsibly to parents/guardians and others involved in meeting the needs of the student. The Speech Pathologist maintains confidentiality of medical and academic records and respect for privacy of individuals with disabilities. The Speech Pathologist participates in professional development opportunities. The Speech Pathologist models accurate, effective communication when conveying ideas and information and when asking questions and responding to students. The Speech Pathologist models the rules of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and syntax in both written and oral contexts. The Speech Pathologist communicates with parents/guardians to develop cooperative partnerships in order to promote students' learning and well-being. The Speech Pathologist demonstrates regular and punctual attendance. The Speech Pathologist maintains a positive attitude and professional demeanor when dealing with school personnel and the public as a school leader. Position may remain open until filled. Extra curricular opportunities may also be available. Salary per salary schedule.
