Industrial Maintenance Technician CompuCycle | Processing Facility Position Overview CompuCycle is seeking an experienced Industrial Maintenance Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our industrial processing equipment. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and conveyor systems throughout our processing facility. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience maintaining industrial shredders, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, electrical controls, and related material‑processing equipment. Experience with SSI shredders or similar industrial shredding equipment is highly preferred. This is a hands‑on position for a technician who understands that equipment uptime is critical to production. The successful candidate will be comfortable diagnosing problems, responding to equipment failures, performing preventative maintenance, and identifying the root cause of recurring issues. Position Details Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM (Overtime as needed) Location: CompuCycle Processing Facility Shredder & Processing Equipment Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial shredders, including SSI or comparable heavy‑duty shredding systems. Inspect and maintain shredder components including cutters, shafts, bearings, gearboxes, motors, couplings, belts, chains, and hydraulic systems. Identify abnormal equipment conditions before they result in production downtime. Perform adjustments, component replacements, alignment, lubrication, and other repairs necessary to maintain equipment reliability. Assist with major shredder rebuilds, overhauls, and equipment upgrades. Conveyor Systems Maintain and troubleshoot conveyor systems used to move material throughout the processing operation. Diagnose issues involving belts, rollers, bearings, pulleys, drives, gearboxes, motors, chains, sprockets, and conveyor controls. Perform conveyor belt tracking, tensioning, alignment, and replacement. Inspect conveyors for wear, damage, and potential safety hazards. Ensure conveyor systems operate efficiently and safely. Preventative & Predictive Maintenance Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on shredders, conveyors, motors, pumps, compressors, hydraulic systems, electrical equipment, and other industrial machinery. Conduct routine inspections and identify equipment requiring repair or replacement. Develop and follow preventative maintenance procedures to reduce unplanned downtime. Maintain lubrication schedules and ensure equipment is properly serviced. Identify recurring failures and recommend corrective actions. Electrical & Controls Troubleshoot industrial electrical systems, including motors, starters, relays, sensors, switches, VFDs, and control panels. Diagnose electrical faults using appropriate testing equipment. Troubleshoot PLC‑controlled equipment and identify problems involving sensors, inputs, outputs, and controls. Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. Assist with electrical installations, equipment modifications, and control‑system improvements. Mechanical, Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment and assemblies. Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, cylinders, pumps, valves, hoses, and related components. Troubleshoot pneumatic systems, including compressors, valves, cylinders, and air lines. Replace bearings, belts, chains, sprockets, motors, gearboxes, couplings, and other mechanical components. Perform equipment alignment and adjustments. Welding & Fabrication Perform basic to advanced welding and fabrication as required for equipment repairs and modifications. Fabricate brackets, guards, supports, chutes, platforms, and other components. Utilize cutting, grinding, drilling, and other fabrication equipment. Assist in designing practical modifications that improve equipment reliability and safety. Troubleshooting & Emergency Repairs Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions. Diagnose problems and determine the safest and most effective repair solution. Minimize equipment downtime while maintaining safety and quality standards. Document failures and repairs to identify recurring problems. Maintain a strong sense of urgency when production‑critical equipment is down. Safety Follow all OSHA, company, and facility safety requirements. Follow proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before performing maintenance. Maintain safe working conditions around moving machinery, conveyors, shredders, electrical systems, and heavy equipment. Inspect equipment and report unsafe conditions immediately. Ensure machine guards and safety devices are properly installed and functioning. Maintenance Documentation & Parts Management Accurately document preventative maintenance, repairs, equipment failures, and parts used. Utilize the company's CMMS to maintain maintenance records and schedules. Maintain appropriate inventory of critical spare parts. Identify parts and supplies needed to prevent extended equipment downtime. Assist with developing equipment‑specific maintenance procedures and checklists. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, safety, and operating efficiency. Analyze recurring equipment failures and recommend permanent corrective actions. Work with Production and Operations leadership to improve equipment performance. Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and process improvements. Required Qualifications Education High school diploma or GED required. Technical degree, industrial maintenance certification, electrical certification, or related training preferred. Experience 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience required. Experience in a shredding, recycling, material recovery, manufacturing, steel, plastics, paper, waste processing, or other heavy industrial environment strongly preferred. Direct experience with SSI shredders or comparable industrial shredding equipment is highly preferred. Proven experience maintaining and troubleshooting conveyor systems. Understands industrial equipment and how it operates. Can diagnose mechanical and electrical problems rather than simply replace parts. Is comfortable working around large shredders and conveyor systems. Takes ownership of equipment reliability and uptime. Can work independently without constant supervision. Responds quickly when critical equipment goes down. Is proactive about preventative maintenance. Takes pride in doing repairs correctly the first time. Understands the importance of safety around industrial machinery. Can communicate effectively with Production and Operations teams. Is willing to get hands‑on and do whatever is necessary to keep the operation running safely. Physical Requirements & Working Environment This position requires working in an active industrial processing environment. Stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, kneel, and work in confined or difficult‑to‑access areas. Lift and move equipment, tools, and parts as required. Work around industrial machinery, conveyors, shredders, electrical equipment, and moving material. Work in environments with elevated noise levels, dust, vibration, and variable temperatures. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Safely use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, testing equipment, and maintenance machinery.
