Certified Dental Assistant - FCI-Fort Dix, Trenton, NJ

Overview Dental Assistant position at Federal Correctional Institute-Fort Dix, 5756 Hartford & Pointville Road, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey 08640. Full-time, 40 hours per week. Responsibilities Assist the dentist during dental procedures and procedures related to restorative, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthetics, examinations, and emergency cases. Assist in maintaining accountability and sterilization of instruments; become proficient in Bureau Electronic Medical Records System (BEMR). Prepare dental instruments, materials, medications, treatment rooms, and equipment; pass instruments, retract tissues, irrigate, and operate the aspirator. Escort patients to the dental area, seat and prepare them for treatment, provide dismissal and follow-up instructions. Perform daily inspection of equipment, maintain infection control procedures in radiographic techniques, and report defective equipment. Prepare the dental treatment room for the next patient and assist in emergency cases. Provide dental health education and assist in the fabrication and repair of dentures and prostheses as applicable. Take radiographs, ensure correct patient positioning and minimize radiation exposure, and save digital radiographs to patient records. Maintain and sterilize instruments, and perform routine polishing of clinical crowns. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Certification from an accredited Dental Assistant program. Training in dental radiology and radiology safety. Current CPR certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing Dental Assistant services. Bi-lingual communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable. Knowledge of routine office duties and computers/word processing. Copies of certifications and resumes must be forwarded with the application. Working Hours The Dental Assistant typically works Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, except on federal holidays. Will not exceed 40 hours per week. Attire Professional clothing suitable for the correctional environment. Uniforms consist of navy, royal blue, or light blue scrubs. Duties And Responsibilities Operate with the current radiological equipment (digital machine). Assist with dental procedures, prepare treatment rooms, and manage patient flow. Pass instruments, retract tissues, irrigate, and operate the aspirator; maintain infection control. Record treatment notes, provide patient instructions, and ensure proper patient positioning for imaging. Maintain dental equipment and supply rooms; perform minor repairs as needed.
