Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician performs machine repairs, projects, refurbishments, rebuilds, and preventive/predictive maintenance activities. Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance work as assigned and scheduled by the CMMS. Maintenance Technician II responds to machine repair calls and projects as assigned or directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Work in a safe manner and maintain safe and clean work area.
• Must wear required personal protective equipment.
• Must wear seat belt and orange vest when driving a forklift truck.
• Reports all potentially unsafe conditions.
• Completion of assigned equipment PM activities as scheduled by CMMS.
• Repair and troubleshoot injection press mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Repair and troubleshoot cementing/coating mechanical, electrical, and spraying systems, including repair and rebuilding of spray guns, agitators, and drum pumps.
• Repair and troubleshoot assembly equipment and hydraulic presses.
• Perform machining operations using lathe, mill, drill press, and bandsaws.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues using machine schematics and assembly drawings.
• Plan and complete projects, refurbishments, and rebuilds.
• Complete and accurately enter work activity into CMMS.
• Daily housekeeping and 5S of work areas and maintenance shop.
• Required to work mandatory overtime when scheduled.
• Knowledge and practice of all applicable Hutchinson's Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures and requirements.
• Since it is impossible to foresee every situation in production needs, you may be assigned responsibilities outside the scope of the job description to meet production needs.

Supervisory responsibilities: None.

Qualifications:

The employee must have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with maintenance staff and personnel from other company departments. Attention to detail, accuracy, completion of scheduled tasks. The employee must have strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic aptitudes, and be able to work independently with little or no direct supervision. Employee must understand the role and function of the maintenance organization in a manufacturing environment.

Education &/or experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certification or minimum four (4) years of equivalent experience.

Mathematical skills: Basic math and problem-solving skills required for measurements, fabrication, and completion of paperwork and reporting.

Computer skills: Employee must be able to navigate and input data into CMMS.

Reasoning ability: The employee must have the ability to define problems, draw valid conclusions, and determine a proper course of action. The employee must be able to troubleshoot systems and breakdowns by simplifying problems, process of elimination, and recognized problem solving techniques. The employee must be able to implement necessary solutions under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or designee.

Certificates, licenses, registrations: Fork truck operator's license. Scissor lift operator's license. First Responder and blood born pathogen certification.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; walk; bend; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; and regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, to climb, and to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work environment: The employee will work predominately in a maintenance shop and a manufacturing environment where the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) will be required including safety glasses, steel toed shoes with metatarsal guards, and hearing protection. The employee may also be required to use a face shield, protective gloves and sleeves, fall protection harness, and hardhat depending upon assigned work tasks.
