We are not looking for someone who can keep an equipment fleet running — we are looking for someone who will treat the fleet as a P&L, a competitive advantage, and a proving ground for the next Director of Fleet & Equipment Operations. Adequate looks like reactive maintenance schedules and equipment that shows up "close enough" to on time. Excellence looks like a fleet strategy so well-engineered that Project Managers stop thinking about equipment at all — because it's simply never the constraint. Position Summary The Equipment Manager owns the strategic performance of GSI's heavy equipment fleet — industrial drills, excavators, concrete pumps, grout plants, and attachments — end to end: composition, acquisition, lifecycle economics, maintenance discipline, and logistics. This is not an inventory-tracking role. It is a capital-allocation and operations role disguised as an equipment job, and it reports into a business that expects the person in this seat to be running a department within 24 months. You’ll work in close, high-trust partnership with Project Managers, General Superintendents, the Equipment Service Coordinator, and shop leadership — but you'll be measured on outcomes across the fleet, not on how busy you looked getting there. What Success Looks Like Fleet Strategy & Capital Discipline Fleet composition and sizing consistently match forecasted project demand — no scrambling, no idle iron. Buy/lease/rent/dispose decisions are backed by real utilization and lifecycle-cost data, not gut calls or vendor relationships. Equipment technology and market trends are tracked and translated into a fleet that stays ahead of competitors, not behind them. Maintenance & Uptime A preventative maintenance program is running across every equipment category, catching problems before they become downtime. Repair spend and recurring failure patterns are visible and actively managed down — not just logged. Safety and compliance standards are non-negotiable defaults, not periodic catch-up projects. Project Enablement Project Managers and Superintendents get the right equipment, matched to scope and terrain, without having to chase it. Equipment availability, cost, and lead time are built into bids early — this role shapes decisions, it doesn't just react to them. Field teams get fast, decisive answers on equipment needs and substitutions. Logistics & Execution Equipment moves across active job sites with minimal idle time, minimal hauling cost, and zero avoidable scheduling conflicts. Transport readiness — inspected, secured, documented — is the standard every time, not the exception. Compliance & Documentation DOT, OSHA, and manufacturer compliance records are audit-ready at all times. Asset history, warranty documentation, and disposal records are organized well enough that anyone could pick them up cold. Who Thrives Here We're screening for judgment and trajectory as much as background. The right candidate will show: Results orientation — a track record of measurable fleet or operations outcomes, not just years in a seat. Strategic judgment under constraint — the ability to make sound buy/lease/dispose calls with imperfect data and real deadlines. Resilience and adaptability — comfortable when priorities shift mid-week because a job site does. Cross-functional command — credibility with mechanics and shop leads as well as Project Managers and executives. Discipline without being told — the systems and documentation exist because you built them, not because someone audited you into it. Experience & Qualifications 5+ years managing heavy equipment fleets in construction, civil, or industrial environments. Deep working knowledge of excavators, drills, concrete pumps, grout plants, and attachments. Demonstrated success negotiating acquisitions/disposals and defending asset valuations. Fluency with preventative maintenance programs and fleet management software. Working knowledge of DOT/OSHA equipment transport and jobsite safety regulations. Valid driver's license. Preferred Experience with fleet/asset management systems (HCSS, B2W, Fleetio, or similar). Background in heavy civil, foundation, or underground construction. Leadership Runway This role is built as a pipeline seat. A candidate who executes at the level above is on a credible path toward Director of Fleet & Equipment Operations — owning strategy, budget, and a team, not just a fleet. We're hiring for who you become in 18–24 months, not just who you are on day one. Location This is a Williamstown, KY–based role (or one of GSI's approved remote hubs). We are looking for candidates willing to relocate to be close to the operation they're accountable for — proximity to the business you're running is part of the ownership we're hiring for. Physical Requirements Ability to visit active job sites, including uneven terrain and active construction zones. Ability to travel between job sites and equipment yards as needed. US pay range for this role.
