Conservationist 2 - Corpsmember Development

Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Conservationist Supervisor, the Conservationist 2 Education/Training Coordinator will be responsible for the Corpsmember Development Program at the Placer Center. The CMD program includes the managing and tracking of hours for Corpsmembers (CM) enrolled in educational scholarship programs (AmeriCorps and CCC Scholarships), planning, scheduling, and tracking CM events in C³. Schedules and trains all new CMs in Corpsmember Orientation Motivation Education Training (COMET). Planning, posting and organizing community volunteer events and outreach. This position may work alternative schedules that include nights and weekends, including taking out crews. The Conservationist 2 will act as a Lead for the Conservationist 1(s) and lead Special Corpsmembers (SpCM).

Working Conditions

This position reports to the Placer Center located at 3710 Christian Valley Rd. Auburn, 95602.

Some travel will be required for trainings, project work, and emergency assignments.

When working in the office: climate controlled, artificial light, sitting long periods of time. This position is classified as “In Office” and is not eligible for telework.

When working outdoors in the field: all weather conditions are possible.

Special Requirements

• Commercial Driver License – Provide evidence that a Commercial Class C license with a Passenger Transport Vehicle special endorsement (or equivalent) has been obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
• Pre-employment Drug Test – Pass a urine drug test. In accordance with the Federal Highway Administration regulations (49 CFR, Part 382), persons hired to a class requiring a commercial driver license must take and pass a pre-employment drug test. Please note : Per California Code of Regulations 213.5, applicants who fail the drug test pursuant to section 213.4 (h), will be disqualified from the examination in which they are competing and, except as provided by section 213.5 (e), shall not be eligible to take any State civil service examination for a class for which drug testing is required until one year has elapsed from the date the drug test specimen is given.
• Background Investigation – Undergo fingerprinting and successfully pass a Criminal Offender Record Information check completed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) which may or may not also include a background check through the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
• Medical Exam – A medical clearance exam is required for this classification.

1. List Eligibility – Successfully complete the Conservationist 2 civil service exam to be placed on the eligibility list. Please refer to the exam bulletin for more detailed information.

2. Transfer Eligibility – Must have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above).

3. Reinstatement Eligibility – Previously obtained permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above.

4. Training & Development (T&D) Assignment – State employees in a permanent appointment, and no longer on probation, may be considered for a T&D assignment.
