Industrial Process Piping Fabrication Specialist

In this position, you’ll take projects from layout to final test, building and installing gas, oil, compressed air, and water piping systems on custom industrial equipment. A day in the life

You arrive, review the latest engineering drawings and burner schematics, and map out your fit-up plan. You’ll measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe; prep weld joints; and assemble valves, gauges, and fittings. Midday, you’re TIG/MIG welding stainless and carbon steel, checking tolerances, and collaborating with engineering and electrical teammates to keep milestones on track. By afternoon, you’re pressure-testing lines, documenting as-builts and lessons learned, and resetting your work area for tomorrow’s run.

Core responsibilities

• Lay out, fabricate, install, and pressure-test industrial gas, oil, air, and water piping on one-off equipment builds.
• Interpret blueprints, P&IDs, burner schematics, and engineering drawings to execute accurate installations.
• Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe; assemble valves, fittings, gauges, and related components per spec.
• Operate pipe cutting, threading, and fabrication machinery; apply thread sealants and perform structural and process welds.
• Perform TIG and MIG welding on carbon steel, black iron, and stainless components.
• Assist with equipment testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning/startup activities.
• Coordinate work to maximize shop efficiency and leverage available labor and resources.
• Document installation details, updates, and technical issues to support continuous improvement.
• Maintain a safe, clean, well-organized workspace and participate in ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Pipefitter certification or equivalent experience preferred.
• 5+ years of industrial/manufacturing pipefitting experience.
• 3+ years working with industrial heating, combustion, thermal processing, or similar equipment preferred.
• Demonstrated TIG/MIG proficiency with stainless and carbon steel.
• Background in manufacturing, fabrication, or custom equipment building is highly preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

• Fluent in reading blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and work instructions.
• Experienced with pipe cutting, threading, and fabrication equipment.
• Deep understanding of industrial gas, air, water, and fluid piping systems.
• Strong measurement/math skills with fractions, decimals, and standard units.
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting mindset; clear written and verbal communication.
• Proven ability to prioritize multiple jobs in a deadline-driven manufacturing setting.
• Meticulous attention to detail and pride in quality craftsmanship.
