The Hartford’s **Enterprise Billing and Audit** organization seeks a highly motivated **Software Engineer** with substantial hands-on experience in designing, developing, and supporting **full-stack** applications deployed on cloud platforms such as **AWS** or **GCP**.The ideal candidate will be an integral part of our release train, collaborating closely with architects and development teams to enhance and maintain billing applications on the cloud and develop new, cloud-native solutions that align with Hartford’s architectural standards, business requirements, and technology roadmap.This is a technical role with the primary objective to enable **customer experience and speed to market** while providing flexibility and scalability to execute on the broader **Enterprise Billing and Audit Strategic Roadmap**. Successful candidates will demonstrate experience in delivering quality technical solutions that are **stable, performant, and secure**. Solid technical acumen, excellent leadership skills, and strong collaboration abilities are highly valued.This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT and Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).**Responsibilities*** Design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure APIs.* Build and enhance Angular components and other front-end technologies.* Conduct code reviews and maintain quality standards for API and UI modules across multiple scrum teams within their Agile Release Train (ART).* Adhere to architectural standards and maintain application integrity in collaboration with architects and technical leads.* Design solutions with a clear understanding of technology trade-offs, balancing risks and rewards to deliver optimal customer value.* Implement cloud-native architecture patterns that are scalable, reusable, secure, and cost-efficient, including multi-region support, fault tolerance, and data replication strategies.* Utilize AWS services for application development and deployment, including (but not limited to): Lambda, CloudWatch, ECS, EKS, RDS, S3, IAM, SNS, SQS, EventBridge, AWS Batch, AWS Directory, and Service Catalog.* Apply DevOps practices and leverage CI/CD tools for continuous integration and delivery.* Communicating risks, mitigations, and business impacts clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.* Present innovative ideas to leadership and identify opportunities for improvement.* Serve as the technical subject matter expert for billing applications and integration components.* Share knowledge and mentor team members (including sourcing partners) on development guidelines and best practices.* Demonstrate strong attention to detail and effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.* Take ownership and drive innovation to leverage technology for solving customer problems.* Oversee development teams by removing technical blockers and guiding architecture and design.* Maintain regular contact with **other TLs** for efficient progress across development streams.* Coordinate with other projects to support parallel development and reduce code or environment conflicts.**Required Skills & Qualifications*** Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.* **Education:** + Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, or any Engineering discipline.* **Certifications:** + Active Associate-level certification in AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).* **Technical Experience:** + 3+ years of hands-on experience in application software development, including AWS resources, APIs, and UI components.* 4+ years of experience with Java and J2EE technologies (Java Web Services, JMS, XML, JSON, JDBC). + Expertise in creating SOAP and RESTful Web Services using Java Spring Boot. + Understanding of Batch processing and Message Queues (MQ) preferred. + Experience with relational databases such as Oracle.* 3+ years of experience in systems design, continuous integration, and DevOps methodologies.* Familiarity with front-end technologies (e.g., Angular) is a plus.* Strong understanding of Microservices architecture, Swagger, and API Connect (APIC).* Hands-on experience with version control and CI/CD tools, such as: + GitHub, Jenkins, Docker, uDeploy, Rally, Checkmarx + OR AWS equivalents: CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodeStar.* Must have experience with AWS services (Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, S3, IAM, SNS, SQS, EventBridge, etc.).* Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience in Agile or SAFe environments.**Productivity & Innovation:*** Ability to **leverage AI tools and Copilot** to improve productivity in day-to-day tasks, including **development, debugging, documentation, and automation workflows**.**Soft Skills:*** Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.* Excellent communication skills, with ability to influence leadership and collaborate across teams.* Awareness of full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including source code management, code quality, and testing practices.* Demonstrated independence, self-motivation, good judgment, and active listening skills.* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.**Preferred Skills*** Hands-on experience with API development, Angular, and AWS resources such as Lambda, CloudWatch, ECS, RDS, S3, IAM, SNS, SQS, and Service Catalog.* Strong technical knowledge of AWS application development and data integration strategies.* Practical experience in creating Angular components for front-end development.* Solid understanding of relational databases, particularly Oracle.**Compensation**The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
