Commissions Specialist

Position Summary The Accounting Commissions Specialist is responsible for administering, calculating, and processing commission payments accurately and on schedule. This role ensures compliance with compensation plans, collaborates with sales and finance teams, maintains detailed commission records, and provides reporting and analysis to leadership. The specialist plays a critical role in supporting sales operations and ensuring transparency and accuracy in incentive compensation. Key Responsibilities Commission Processing & Administration Calculate commissions based on approved compensation plans, performance data, and contractual terms. Validate sales transactions, revenue, and performance metrics used in commission calculations. Process monthly, quarterly, or ad hoc commission payouts accurately and timely. Resolve commission discrepancies and collaborate with sales, HR, and accounting to verify data. Data Management & Reporting Maintain detailed and organized commission records, files, and audit trails. Prepare regular commission statements and reports for leadership, sales teams, and finance. Reconcile commission expenses and ensure alignment with revenue recognition policies. Analyze commission trends and support forecasting and budgeting activities. Compliance & Controls Ensure all commission calculations adhere to company policies, compensation plans, and regulatory requirements. Assist with internal and external audits related to commissions and financial reporting. Support updates or changes to commission structures and compensation plans. Systems & Process Improvement Utilize commission software (e.g., Xactly, CaptivateIQ, SAP Commissions, or internal tools). Identify opportunities to streamline or improve commission workflows and automation. Provide user support and training to sales team members on commission statements and policies. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience). 2–4 years of experience in accounting, payroll, commissions, or financial operations. Strong proficiency in Excel and financial systems; experience with commission platforms is a plus. Solid understanding of accounting principles, revenue processes, and internal controls. Skills & Competencies High attention to detail and accuracy. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work with sensitive compensation data confidentially. Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with cross-functional teams. Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities. Preferred Qualifications Experience in sales compensation administration. Knowledge of CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce). Experience in high-volume or multi-territory sales organizations.
