Job Description Position: Diesel Technician at Palko Truck and Trailer, a family‑owned business located in Western Pennsylvania. The company has been serving the Tristate area for over 60 years, providing top‑notch truck repair services. Role Overview We are looking for an experienced diesel technician to perform diagnostic, maintenance, and repair tasks on on‑highway diesel powered commercial freight vehicles. Key Responsibilities Inspect and diagnose diesel engines and related vehicle systems using diagnostic tools and equipment. Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on transmissions, air brake systems, electrical systems, and other key components. Fabricate and weld parts as needed. Maintain accurate service records, including parts used, core returns, work completed, and time spent. Assist with ordering and maintaining an inventory of parts, tools, and equipment. Communicate effectively with customers and team members to explain required repairs, estimated costs, and timelines. Utilize problem‑solving skills to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, providing efficient and practical solutions. Qualifications Minimum of two years as a technician/mécanic (desire and ability to learn can supersede this requirement for a suitable fit). High‑school diploma or equivalence; technical or vocational training in mechanics is a plus. ASCE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certificate in diesel engines or equivalent; Heavy‑Duty Wheel Alignment Certificate desired but not mandatory. Class A CDL; PA State Inspection License; heavy‑duty wheel alignment certification; welding qualification. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment (Caterpillar ET, Cummins Insight, NEDS, Diagnostic Link, Bendix, Wabco). Physical ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in various conditions (indoor/outdoor, all weather). Valid driver license with a clean driving record.
