Jackson Madison County School System has an immediate opening for a School Social Worker. Candidates interested in this position require a certification from the State of Tennessee - Department of Education to be considered a qualified candidate. The position reports directly to its respective School Principal and / or The Pupil Services Coordinator. Pay rate is based on a District Scale, approved by the District School Board and is commensurate with relevant education, experience and certifications.

Position Summary:

The School Social Worker will serve as the school system's primary contact for parents regarding student and is responsible for educating each student under his or her care and for challenging students, parents and staff To improve student achievement by ensuring the provision of quality services to eligible students as well as achieving the goals set forth by the Jackson Madison County School System curriculum for this role.

Required Education / Certification / Endorsement:

Must be licensed as a LCSW, LSSW, LPC, CPC or CMSW Preferred Master's Degree in Social Work Minimum 4 Years of Work Experience

Valid Tennessee Teacher's certificate with Qualifying Endorsement Area: School Social Worker Pre-K - 12

Other Endorsement Codes that aren't currently listed, but are still recognized by the TN Department of Education and allow a teacher to teach this subject

Essential Functions:

Provides students with process-oriented therapies as well as conducts education therapy in a professional treatment type setting;

Reports to community/state agencies any student issues that require reporting;

Following each student family contact, a clinical service progress note will be detailed outlining services provided;

Maintain an independent, professional working relationship with all approved state agencies and outside referral sources; Attends all meetings relating to clinical issues with students as requested;

Work effectively with the disciplinary team; Monitor the provision of services to students including the review of student attendance records;

Maintain thorough documentation for state monitoring purposes.

Provide monthly reports to the principal on the progress of the student. Recommend program improvements as needed.

Communicate student information to Director/Principal and all team members in timely manner; Maintains confidentiality pursuant to law and policy;

Perform other duties as required.

Expected Experience, Expertise and Ability:

Expertise in specialty field;

Ability to create a classroom environment which is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students;

Experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery;

Experience in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach; Strong written and oral communication skills;

Ability to build positive and meaningful relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff;

Demonstrated skill in effective communication, conflict resolution, creativity, problem solving, decision making and time management.
