Safety Specialist I

Safety Specialist Location: Carlsbad, New Mexico (Onsite) Help Build a Safer Workplace Hire Virtue is recruiting on behalf of our mining client for a Safety Specialist who is passionate about creating a culture where safety comes first. This position plays a vital role in supporting health and safety initiatives, partnering with operations, and ensuring regulatory compliance across an industrial mining environment. Position Summary The Safety Specialist provides daily support for health and safety programs by identifying workplace risks, promoting safe work practices, ensuring regulatory compliance, and partnering with operational leaders to continuously improve workplace safety. Key Responsibilities Conduct field safety inspections, observations, and risk assessments. Partner with operations and field employees to identify and eliminate workplace hazards. Coach employees and supervisors on safe work practices and regulatory compliance. Investigate incidents and near misses while assisting with root cause analysis and corrective action planning. Support the Management of Change (MOC) process by evaluating safety risks associated with operational changes. Develop and maintain safety procedures, job safety plans, and safe work instructions. Prepare and deliver safety communications, toolbox talks, and crew safety meetings. Coordinate preparations for OSHA and MSHA inspections. Assist with regulatory responses and corrective action follow-up. Monitor compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulations. Maintain safety equipment and inventory. Promote continuous improvement through proactive safety leadership. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred. Minimum 3 years of safety experience in mining, heavy industrial manufacturing, construction, energy, or similar environments. Working knowledge of OSHA and/or MSHA regulations. Experience conducting field inspections and incident investigations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently while building strong relationships across all levels of the organization. Preferred Qualifications Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Safety & Risk Professional (CSRP) preferred. Root Cause Analysis (RCA) facilitation experience is a plus. Experience in mining or other regulated industrial operations.
