Position Overview The Behavioral Health Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and implementing structured therapeutic program activities for individuals and groups of patients in an assigned unit for a specific shift. The role may provide care to various patient populations including pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Essential Functions Monitors therapeutic milieu to identify the need to initiate structured interventions to ensure patient engagement and needs are met, and acts as a patient advocate by maintaining individual rights. Provides leadership and guidance to unit staff, in collaboration with nursing leadership, regarding programming and interventions to achieve and maintain a therapeutic milieu. Stays informed regarding the changing status of all patients on the unit and collaborates with nursing leadership to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, utilizing proactive techniques to de-escalate the milieu and/or individuals. Participates in the development, implementation and utilization of therapeutic milieu activities and interventions. Intervenes to facilitate crisis intervention or conflict resolution for patients within the unit milieu during the assigned shift and responds to codes on the unit in a timely manner using established procedures. Performs specific functions and skills to assist nursing staff in providing patient care as needed, including specimen collection, hygiene, and activities of daily living. Coordinates and communicates with patients, families, physicians and other related health disciplines regarding patient needs as they relate to program interventions and activities. Shift Requirements Shift Length: 8–12 hours Shifts per Week: 3–5 Overtime Required: Infrequently Other Functions Must achieve and maintain Transportation Department authorization to operate facility vehicles. Performs delegated and ancillary basic nursing skills, including activities of daily living, monitoring of patient condition and vital signs, body mechanics, providing nutritional support and other activities as appropriate to clinical service, in accordance with hospital and nursing standards of care, and policies and procedures. Performs functional assignments per unit standards of care, such as patient admission and discharge procedures, unit environmental organizational tasks, and other appropriate services. Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct. Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in counseling psychology, psychology, or a closely related health degree (required). In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 5 years clinical experience specific to unit, program and field. Master’s degree in counseling psychology, psychology or another closely related behavioral health degree (preferred). Licensure Active driver’s license, if required by position/department operations. Certification Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (required). Facility-determined crisis intervention training program (required).
