Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of the cities of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, offering a comprehensive array of programs for both children and adults living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders.

The BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center is designed to serve individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. It offers a range of urgent care services, including therapy, medication management, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention. Unlike traditional emergency rooms, the facility emphasizes a peaceful and therapeutic atmosphere.

As the RN Nurse Manager in the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will lead the coordination and delivery of psychiatric and medical services for individuals experiencing acute mental health and substance use crises at our BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you'll oversee rapid assessments, crisis interventions, medication administration, and ongoing clinical monitoring to help stabilize clients and reduce hospitalizations. You'll supervise nursing staff, support the staff psychiatrist with medication management, and ensure regulatory compliance while shaping health policies that promote safety, quality, and recovery.

To qualify for this position, candidates must have the following:

• Registered Nurse with at least one (1) year of behavioral health experience, including supervisory responsibilities, and able to register as a QMHP trainee within 30 days of hire.
• BSN preferred.

Additionally, candidates must have strong psychiatric nursing knowledge, including administering psychotropic medications safely and familiarity with the DSM V. Leadership skills are essential for planning, supervising, and evaluating staff performance. Effective verbal and written communication, accurate medical record-keeping, data analysis for quality improvement, and basic computer proficiency are also required. A solid understanding of public health, community services, agency procedures, and counseling techniques is crucial for delivering high-quality care in crisis stabilization settings. Candidates should be able to build strong relationships, ensure regulatory compliance, and contribute to risk management and reporting efforts.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
