Insolvency/Commercial Bankruptcy Paralegal

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES Seeking an Insolvency/Commercial Bankruptcy Paralegal to provide assistance to attorneys/trustees in fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, docketing/case management, and overall client service. This position will be focused on commercial bankruptcy matters and the ideal applicant will demonstrate deep expertise in commercial bankruptcy. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Provide substantial assistance in preparing Chapter 11 commercial bankruptcy cases; assistance with preparing for first‑day hearings including pleading preparation, noticing, and preparation of related PowerPoints and demonstratives. Learn/develop technical proficiency in database use and management; internet/electronic research; and project folder/electronic file maintenance. Assist with drafting, processing, and filing bankruptcy‑related documents. Obtain credit reports and assist with writing Proofs of Claim. Review case documents regularly to ensure accuracy and completion. Assist in preparation of hearing notebooks containing relevant materials including motion/application, notice, order and exhibits. Assist with mailings in bankruptcy cases as required. Attend and participate in internal CLEs. Anticipate attorney needs. Serve as a mentor to a Paralegal Assistant, or more junior Paralegal, as needed. Stay informed of developments in Paralegal industry. Familiarity and experience with adopting legal AI and ability to learn and implement new AI. Meet annual billable hour target of 1,500. Perform other duties as required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Minimum of 10 years’ experience working directly with commercial bankruptcy attorneys in a law firm or similar professional setting. Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred. Significant, substantive legal related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education at the discretion of the SBU Managing Director. Ability to independently handle all key duties without supervision of another Paralegal or Senior Paralegal.
