Part-Time Nursery Attendant

We are seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Nursery Attendant to provide childcare on Sunday mornings in a welcoming and inclusive Unitarian Universalist church environment. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in early childhood education, childcare, or child development who is looking for a small, consistent part-time position and an opportunity to gain additional experience working with young children. Schedule & Pay Approximately 2 hours each Sunday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Starting pay: $17.13 per hour Professional development opportunities may be available. Job Description The Nursery Attendant will work alongside a church volunteer to care for children generally under age 5 while their parents and caregivers attend Sunday services and other church activities. Responsibilities include: Providing a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for children. Supervising and engaging children through age-appropriate play, activities, and learning experiences. Changing diapers and assisting with toileting as needed. Maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary nursery space. Communicating appropriately with parents and caregivers about their child’s experience and any concerns that arise. Following the congregation’s child-safety policies and procedures. On Sundays when no nursery-aged children are present, assisting in the Elementary Religious Exploration classroom as needed. Qualifications Must be at least 21 years old. Previous experience caring for or working with children in a professional, volunteer, educational, or personal setting. Basic knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities. Patient, compassionate, dependable, and comfortable working with young children. First Aid and CPR certification meeting Washington State requirements, or willingness to obtain certification if applicable. Ability to work cooperatively with church staff and volunteers. Willingness to work in a liberal, welcoming, and LGBTQ+ affirming faith community. Applicants do not need to be Unitarian Universalist or belong to any particular faith tradition.
