Inland Eye Specialist – Surgery Center is seeking an energetic, patient-focused full-time Perioperative Registered/Operating Room Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate must be willing to work at both our Hemet and Murrieta Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) in California. Ideal candidates have experience with ophthalmic procedures (cataract, retina, cornea, glaucoma) and perioperative care, including pre-, intra-, or post-op nursing. Inland Eye Specialists Surgery Center was established in 1985 by Dr. Michael Duffin in Hemet, California and opened an additional location in Murrieta, California. The 2,500+ annual surgeries performed at Inland Surgery Center include surgery for cataracts, glaucoma, strabismus, and corneal disease. We also perform cosmetic eyelid surgery. The PACU Nurse is responsible for the safety and care of the patients while in the pre-operative and post-operative areas. Accountable for the delivery of individualized nursing care to patients both prior to administration and immediately following the emergence from anesthesia for surgical intervention. Incorporating current clinical knowledge with established nursing practice, performs nursing interventions utilizing the nursing process. By assessment of the individual patient and the scheduled surgical procedure anticipates the needs of the patient and provides for those needs while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment. Responsibilities Must be able to work at both the Hemet and Murrieta ASC locations Maintenance of electronic medical records Recognition of the need for narrative recording of unusual perioperative events, such as cancellation of procedure by anesthesia provider or medical emergencies Ability to provide accurate preoperative instructions to patients Ability to provide customized discharge education and follow-up phone call to patients Ability to utilize general nursing foundation to formulate a patient specific plan related to pre-existing conditions, act as the patient’s advocate, and relay information (report) to others during patient “hand-off” Ability to apply Perioperative & Ophthalmic Nursing Principles to the care of the patient, especially as they relate to perioperative policies/instructions; and postoperative care of vision impaired, sedated patients who have received ophthalmic anesthetic blocks Administer medications safely, adhering to Safe Injection Practices and their implications. Awareness of the impact of patient allergies on eye drop orders. Adherence to Controlled Substance Policies & Procedures Participate in Medication Outdate Checks Participate in Supply Inventory Maintenance Adherence to Infection Control Policies & Procedures Familiarity with Medical Emergency Preparedness Policies & Procedures All other duties as assigned Qualifications Registered Nurse license BLS Certificate ACLS Certificate Two years’ experience as a RN, one (1) year of experience occurring in a perioperative setting, or specialty where sterile procedures are performed Working knowledge of nursing performance standards Working knowledge of operating room equipment: microscope, phacoemulsification machine, electrosurgical unit, surgeon headlamp, LASERs, medical gases, patient gurney, and patient care monitor Recognition of the need for narrative recording of unusual operating room events Ability to assess patients’ needs: physical, educational, emotional, spiritual, and age appropriate Ability to read and interpret documents such as doctor’s notes Excellent Customer Service Self-Starter Professional Leadership Skills In Turn We Will Provide: Benefits to full-time team members that include. comprehensive medical, dental, and optical coverage, 401K and short- and long-term disability Company paid life insurance Paid holidays and generous paid time off Paid parking Team oriented working environment where you are heard and respected Clear career ladder opportunities Offered pay range $46.00/Hr.-$48.00/Hr.
