To learn more about GSCY, visit our website: General Function: The Swim Instructor serves members though Swimming sessions. S/he builds relationships with members and program participants through effective and positive customer service while providing a safe instructional environment. Essential duties: Engages all members/participants in a professional and courteous manner: Greet/say hello and goodbye to all participants in the aquatics area and learn members names and call them by their names Listen and be accessible to all members for questions and comments Follow-up as needed Engages members on new classes, new changes, etc. Maintains proper functioning/cleanliness and/or report malfunctioning of Water area/equipment to supervisor Redirects members on cell phones to front lobby Adheres and incorporate the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and educates members about the YMCA mission and goals Complies with all Somerset Hills YMCA Policies and Procedures Attends trainings, seminars and meetings as required Other duties: Arrives to work five (5) minutes before shift starts Wear appropriate and professional uniform/attire All other duties as assigned Requirements Required knowledge/experience: Has 1+ experience in teaching Swim Lessons Proven track-record in attracting and retaining new clients/participants Required education/certifications: HS diploma or equivalent YSL and/or WSI certification Current Blood borne Pathogens certification SH YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of hire SH YMCA New Staff Orientation Training within 90 days of hire Required core competencies: Commitment to Mission and YMCA values: Accepts and demonstrates YMCA values Shows a genuine concern for the needs, feelings and well-being of others under all circumstances Acts with integrity and credibility in all situations Commitment to Inclusion: Displays ease and comfort with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions Works effectively with all members of a diverse team Seeks out and includes others in order to gather new and different point of view Member, Community and Movement Driven Demonstrates a desire to serve others Responds to requests, inquiries, concerns and complaints in a timely and appropriate fashion to assure that members feels valued Anticipates and acts to fulfill member and community needs Improves programs and services based on member and community feedbackRelationship Building: Develops and maintains mutually beneficial relationships with volunteers, members and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
