We are now accepting applications for the Unity Hospital Adult Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse Fellowship Program for December 2026 RN graduates - the start date of this cohort will be March 2027.

The emergency department can be exciting and exhilarating. At Rochester Regional, we have some of the busiest emergency departments in the state, outside of New York City. Our ED fellowships, available only to recent nursing graduates , give you the opportunity to experience this fast-paced environment and determine if it's right for you.

The Adult ED Fellowship at Unity Hospital features:

• A cohort-based orientation

• Emergency Department training, along with additional opportunities to develop your nursing skillset through time spent medical & surgical units

• Frequent education sessions with Adult ED Fellowship leaders

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Patient Care & Service: Promote and restore patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; performing various treatment procedures; providing physical, educational and emotional support to patients, friends and families; supervising assigned team members

• Planning & Communication : Develop and document individualized care plans customized for each patient’s unique needs, with support from the interdisciplinary health team as needed; maintain effective communication to convey patient health status, treatment plans and progress

• Electronic Health Record (EHR) Management: Demonstrate proficient use of an EHR – including accurate patient and provider documentation and communication

• Compliance: Adhere to required department and system protocols, regulations (local, state, federal) and education requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing

• Registered Nurse license in New York State

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred

EDUCATION:

AS: Nursing (Required)

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:

BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA), RN - Registered Nurse - NYS Office of Professions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.
