Job Description This role works in a collaborative model that includes psychiatrists, residents, psychologists, social workers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and staff who care for child/adolescent inpatient psychiatry patients. The position is supervised by the Medical Director and additional approving physicians. The team provides high‑quality treatment, managing mental health and substance use conditions through history, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication prescribing, and coordination with other providers. Education Graduate of an accredited master’s or doctorate program specializing in psychiatric nurse practitioner. Work Experience Experience with ongoing clinical management of psychopharmacology. Preferred: 2 years of related psychiatry working experience with children/adolescents in an inpatient setting. Certifications Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice. Current board certification as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) with Child/Adolescent Training. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association. Current or eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing. Current or eligible for Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Registration/Licensure. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Proficient with Windows‑style applications, various software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) specific to role. Strong interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level. Reliable transportation including the ability to travel throughout and between facilities. Competency documenting services using an electronic medical records system. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours (weekends/holidays/nights/call). Job Duties Utilize the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care. Provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas. Complete initial consultations, formulate an initial diagnosis and treatment plan for individuals with mental health disorders; and provide psychopharmacology evaluations and treatments. Provide clinical services including medication management in accordance with evidence‑based practices. Monitor changes of patients with persistent mental illness. Initiate and complete all relevant documentation within organizational time frames. Maintain an attitude of inquiry towards medical practices and patient care outcomes and may develop research methodology. Provide education experiences to patient families, staff, and other health professionals. Develop working relationship with physicians and colleagues. Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style. Other related duties as required.
