Software Development Engineer II - Rates & Inventory

About the Role This Software Development Engineer II role is part of the Supply Partner Experience - Rates and Inventory team within Expedia Group’s Technology division. The team builds and enhances the core rates and inventory capabilities that empower suppliers to set up, optimize, and distribute competitive rate plans across our brands. As an engineer, you will design, build, and operate secure, scalable services that support partners in managing rates and inventory, directly influencing travel options on our platform. Responsibilities In this role, you will: Design, build, and evolve reliable, scalable backend and/or full‑stack services, including system design, API design, and data modeling. Deliver features across the full software development lifecycle by implementing designs, writing high‑quality code, creating and executing tests, and contributing to deployment, monitoring, and operational support. Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and technical partners to understand requirements, break down work, and implement solutions that integrate with multiple services. Improve code quality, reliability, and performance by following and contributing to best practices in testing, observability, security, and operational excellence. Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing to foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement. Safely integrate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that enhance outcomes, applying AI/ML concepts to real‑world products. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent professional experience. 2+ years of professional software development experience delivering production services or applications. Proficiency in at least one modern programming language commonly used at Expedia Group, with solid understanding of core software engineering concepts including algorithms, data structures, object‑oriented or functional design, system design, API design, and data modeling. Experience working with service‑oriented or microservice architectures, including consuming and implementing APIs and contributing to reliability, scalability, and security. Experience with Java, React, JavaScript, and TypeScript. Exposure to operating services in production environments, such as monitoring, on‑call support, or improving systems based on operational data. Preferred Qualifications Experience designing and evolving distributed systems and data models that handle significant traffic or data volume. Demonstrated ownership of components or features, making trade‑offs, and aligning solutions with architectural and domain standards. Practice driving operational improvements such as enhancing observability, automating tasks, or improving performance and cost efficiency. Hands‑on experience using AI‑driven tools, platforms, or workflows, and integrating AI/ML‑enabled components into production services. Experience applying data‑driven decision making with metrics, experimentation, or analytics to inform technical choices. Compensation and Benefits The total cash range for this position in Austin is $119,000 to $166,500. Employees have the potential to increase pay up to $190,500 based on performance. Starting pay will vary based on multiple factors, including location, budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.
