Composite Mechanic

BASIC FUNCTION: To safely and efficiently inspect, service, repair and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations. Operate and maintain equipment. Transport crew and equipment to/from jobsite.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:Reports To: Senior Manager, Mechanical; Manager, Mechanical Services (indirectly)Supervises: N/AESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Association of American Railroads (AAR) and company operating standardsInspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in diesel engines, air brake equipment, running gear or locomotive componentsPerform service on locomotives such as fueling and daily inspectionsRivet, bolt, glue, braze or weld to fabricate, modify or design replacement parts for equipmentFabricate, cut, shape, and perform finish operations using various types of materialsMove locomotives within mechanical department limitsParticipate in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings or process reviewsComplete and maintain mechanical documentation such as summaries and maintenance reportsReceive instructions, requests, orders, and information from posted bulletins, memorandums, rules and regulation manualsOperate equipment necessary to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in diesel engines, air brake equipment, running gear or locomotive componentsAssist Lead, as directedEmployment Conditions:Work safely, follow standard procedures, be alert and take necessary precautions to prevent on the job accidents and injuriesWear required protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glassesWork hours may include a nonstandard workweek (overtime, various shift work and be on call during the week, weekend and holidays outside of normal scheduled hours)Complete annual training and pass safety rules examinationsMay require random testing for drugs and/or alcoholMust pass and maintain all required assessments, certifications and licensesMust pass a background screeningThis is a safety sensitive position.
