Job Title: Maintenance Technician II Job Description The Maintenance Technician II is an experienced technical professional responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving manufacturing equipment and facility systems in a highly regulated medical manufacturing environment. This role requires strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic expertise, along with advanced troubleshooting skills. You work independently, respond quickly to equipment downtime, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other support functions to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and uninterrupted production. Responsibilities Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, automation and assembly equipment, and facility systems. Support the operation and maintenance of injection molding machines and associated manufacturing equipment. Troubleshoot electrical systems, including motors, sensors, heaters, thermocouples, relays, contactors, and other machine controls. Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders, regulators, fittings, and related components. Respond to production equipment breakdowns with a strong sense of urgency and safely restore equipment to operation. Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to improve equipment reliability. Complete scheduled preventive maintenance activities accurately and on time. Support equipment installations, modifications, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects. Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of robotic and automated manufacturing systems, including assembly robots. Partner with Process Engineering, Automation Engineering, Tooling, and Operations to resolve equipment-related production issues. Identify opportunities to reduce equipment downtime, enhance preventive maintenance effectiveness, and increase equipment reliability. Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, repairs, and parts usage within the site’s maintenance system. Follow all applicable safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and site procedures. Perform work in accordance with requirements associated with an FDA-registered, ISO-based medical manufacturing environment. Provide technical guidance and hands‑on support to less‑experienced maintenance technicians as needed. Assist with spare‑parts identification and recommendations for critical manufacturing equipment. Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, equipment uptime, and overall operational performance. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Perform additional maintenance and facility‑related duties as assigned. Essential Skills Minimum 10 years of hands‑on industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose complex equipment failures and determine root causes. Proven experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, hydraulic diagrams, and pneumatic diagrams. Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and machine controls. Working knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and industrial safety practices. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively prioritize multiple equipment issues. Strong communication and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other technical functions. Advanced troubleshooting capability in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment where equipment uptime is critical. Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and accountability in managing equipment and maintenance tasks. Ability to serve as a technical resource for the maintenance team and support the development of less‑experienced technicians. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in and around manufacturing equipment. Ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, and other maintenance equipment. Ability to work around operating manufacturing equipment and within controlled manufacturing environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience maintaining plastic injection molding equipment and associated auxiliary equipment. Experience with injection molding machine manufacturers such as Engel, Arburg, Milacron, or similar equipment. Experience troubleshooting robotics, automation systems, conveyors, dryers, chillers, temperature controllers, material handling systems, and related auxiliary equipment. PLC troubleshooting experience, particularly with Allen‑Bradley systems. Experience working in medical device, pharmaceutical, or other FDA-regulated manufacturing environments. Experience working within ISO-based or comparable quality management systems. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and work‑order systems. Technical degree, apprenticeship, journeyman certification, or equivalent industrial maintenance training is preferred. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role primarily supports injection molding and associated manufacturing operations and involves significant time on the production floor in a controlled manufacturing environment. You work in and around operating equipment, using hand tools, power tools, meters, and other maintenance instruments to perform your duties safely. The position may require flexibility to support equipment needs outside normal working hours based on production requirements and business demands. The environment follows strict safety, GMP, FDA, and ISO‑related procedures, and emphasizes maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area while working closely with production and technical teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gurnee, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.89 - $33.99/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
